About The Position

We are seeking an Assistant Maintenance Coordinator to work at our Blue Creek Mine in Berry, Alabama. This individual will play a critical leadership role, uphold the highest standards of professionalism, integrity, and teamwork, and serving as a role model for the “Warrior Way.” Mining positions may be required to work various shifts, rotating schedules, weekends, and holidays as scheduled. The Assistant Maintenance Coordinator is responsible for coordinating, supervising, and optimizing all maintenance activities on their assigned shift. This includes overseeing the repair, servicing, and availability of all underground equipment and fixed plant assets to ensure safe, efficient operations. The Assistant Maintenance Coordinator works closely with operations leadership, maintenance planners, and technicians to uphold equipment reliability and maximize productivity.

Requirements

  • Valid Alabama Mine Foreman Certification and MSHA Electrical Certification is required.
  • Minimum 5 years of underground coal mine maintenance supervisory experience.
  • Strong mechanical and/or electrical aptitude with a deep understanding of coal mining equipment (e.g., continuous miners, shuttle cars, belt systems, pumps, etc.).
  • Proven leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work rotating shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Must be safety-oriented and capable of enforcing high safety standards.

Nice To Haves

  • Proficiency with maintenance documentation and data reporting systems is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise and lead maintenance crews to ensure safe, efficient, and effective maintenance practices are followed.
  • Coordinate equipment maintenance and repair activities to optimize equipment availability and reliability.
  • Monitor maintenance schedules and ensure work orders are completed according to priority and operational demand.
  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to maintenance technicians.
  • Ensure preventive and corrective maintenance tasks are executed in line with company standards.
  • Analyze equipment performance data to support root cause investigations and recommend improvements.
  • Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, equipment hours, inspections, and parts usage.
  • Ensure compliance with MSHA and company safety regulations at all times.
  • Collaborate with the operations team to prioritize maintenance based on production needs.
  • Maintain appropriate parts inventory and ensure proper use and documentation of critical spares.
  • Conduct regular safety talks and inspections to promote a strong safety culture.
  • Coordinate with external vendors and contractors when needed for specialized maintenance work.
  • Investigate equipment failures, safety incidents, and near misses, and implement corrective measures.
  • Support and enforce operational policies, environmental procedures, and all regulatory requirements.
  • Participate in short- and long-term planning efforts for equipment and infrastructure improvement.
  • Improve safety standards by holding safety meetings, conducting safety interactions, and taking corrective action where required.
  • Ensure adherence to State, Federal and Company workplace policies and standard work procedures for risk identification, risk assessment and risk control.
  • Maintain a high level of Safety performance through effective communication, monitoring, and revision of standard work procedures.
  • Identify and report safety risks, accidents, incidents, injuries, and property damage at the workplace.
  • Attend and participate in all scheduled safety meetings and training.
  • Investigate accidents and near misses with a view toward positive action, through training, equipment set-up or equipment repair and report on findings and conclusions.
  • Maintain environmental awareness amongst the workforce by holding meetings and involving the environmental department in related subjects.
  • Ensure adherence to environmental policy, work standards, management plans and regulatory obligations and requirements.
  • Integrate environmental policies, programs, and practices into all activities of the organization.
