About The Position

The Assistant Cup Machine Operator feeds work-in-process blanks to cup machines and assists the Cup Operator in all phases of machine operation. The role is directly responsible for machine startups and shutdowns, clearing jams, making bottom-stock splices, filling oil reservoirs, emptying scrap bins, sweeping and cleaning floors, and making minor machine adjustments. This position is part of the line of progression to become an Operator.

Requirements

High school diploma or General Education Degree.
One year of related experience.
Demonstrated problem-solving skills.

Responsibilities

Maintain feed-bed operation by consistently feeding work-in-process material onto conveyors; continuously feed 5–7 conveyors.
Check work-in-process quality, sort out defective material, and notify the Cup Operator of defects such as wrinkled stock, excessive offset or haze, ink spots, misregistration, or excessive scrap.
Start and stop machines properly and clear jams.
Read and understand job jackets to ensure the correct materials are being used and prepared for each job.
Keep oil reservoirs filled.
Make bottom-stock splices and inspect cups after each splice.
Manually web the bottom stock.
Locate and follow applicable standards.
Empty scrap bins.
Sweep floors and maintain housekeeping throughout the shift.
Cover Packers for breaks as needed.
Follow appropriate lockout/tagout procedures when necessary.
Use the safety interlock system and keys.
Maintain a clean and orderly work area.
Spot for scissor-lift operation.
Help train new assistants.
