About The Position

The Assistant Transportation manager will lead drivers for Harlow’s School Bus Service, Inc business. This will include driver leadership, recruiting, retention, training and development. This includes assisting the account to reach goals and achieve P&L objectives. With the guidance of the Transportation Manager, this person will develop a strategic as well tactical driver plan to meet growth and profitability objectives.

Requirements

  • Bachelors Degree in Business or Transportation and/or 5 years of experience in the transportation industry.
  • Minimum of 5 years successful operations or transportation experience.
  • Four year degree, or established experience in business or transportation.
  • Ability to understand and implement P&L, cost control and revenue generation concepts.
  • Excellent problem analysis and critical thinking skills.
  • Ability to lead and develop a high performance environment.
  • Willing to push costs down and grow with entrepreneurial drive.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills to ensure success
  • Problem Solving: Demonstrated ability to identify and resolve problems in a timely manner and appropriately gather and analyze information.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for implementing new methods of managing drivers, providing customer service, and recruiting drivers at the local level.

  • Development of drivers to meet business goals and promote profitable growth. Facilitate actions to improve driver performance and improve safety results.
  • Execute recruiting strategy to support the service and growth of new and existing accounts.
  • Establish solid business relationships and maintains open, accurate and timely two-way communications with drivers and internal associates.
  • Responsible for ensuring all drivers have qualifications and are current with all regulatory requirements.
  • Encourages professional driver appearance and behavior.
  • Ensure all preventive maintenance is performed (meet or exceed State and Harlow’s requirements).
  • This position will be required to understand the performance of maintenance and repairs on gas and diesel powered vehicles as well as all other systems and components found within the vehicle.
  • Work with Transportation Manager to develop recruiting plan to hire and retain experienced drivers.
  • Responsible to ensure Driver Associates comply with HR requirements (EEOC, Affirmative Action and other employment rules and regulations).
  • Responsible for DOT and OSHA compliance for all location(s) within area of operational responsibility.
  • Ensure that all Driver Qualifications on location are meeting FMCSA regulations.
  • Ensure all preventive maintenance services are performed in compliance with corporate plan.
  • Performs other task as assigned by leadership.
