About The Position

The Assistant Landfill Manager is charged with assisting the Landfill Manager with the maintenance and operation of Sandpoint Landfill, located 12 miles east of Carlsbad on Highway 62/180. This person will become an integral member of the staff and requires on-call status twenty-four (24) hours per day, seven days (7) per week unless relieved of this duty for a specific time period. The Assistant Landfill Manager undertakes the responsibilities of the Landfill Manager during his/her absence. The position is responsible for the supervision of employees assigned to the operation of Sandpoint Landfill; orientation and direction of employees in daily operations, schedules, safety, work performance evaluations and policies, work quality, equipment operations, project evaluation, design and management, public safety and public awareness. Employee will be responsible for developing and maintaining regulatory record keeping daily logs of work activities, waste volumes, daily site deposits, equipment logs and records, equipment maintenance records, fuel/material purchases, orders and invoices. Employee will assist in the orientation and direction of employees in safety, work performance evaluation and policies, work quality, equipment operations, project evaluations, design, and management, public safety, and public awareness. This position is subject to random drug screening as a safety sensitive position. Employee may be required to work irregular hours, attend job related meetings, and perform other duties as assigned. The Sandpoint Landfill Manager, Road Manager, Assistant Public Works Director, and Public Works Director all have authority to direct your work schedule at any time.
