About The Position

Livonia Public Schools is seeking an Assistant Kitchen Manager (3.5 Hours) to assist with management of the school kitchen, food preparation and serving of meals to students. A spirit of cooperation with all others in the building is essential. Other duties associated with this position may be assigned by the supervisor. Specific details of the position will be discussed with the administrator during the interview process. Training will be provided.

Requirements

  • Must be able to read, understand and follow directions.

  • Knowledge of where food items are kept.
  • Knowledge of how to use kitchen equipment.
  • Knowledge of basic start-to-finish daily job duties.
  • Knowledge of building orientation.
  • Good communication skills.

  • Ability to meet time deadlines for meal service.
  • Ability to perform repetitive motions like washing/cutting fresh fruit or vegetables, cooking/baking, cupping small quantities of foods or sauces for student trays, counting pieces such as chicken nuggets for student meals.
  • Ability to stand for long periods of time.
  • Ability to wash pots/pans and serving utensils.
  • Ability to sanitize counters and service areas.
  • Ability to properly measure cleaning solutions.
  • Ability to follow protocols for safe food handling practices.
  • Ability to assist with receiving and putting away food and/or milk deliveries.
  • Ability to lift up to 50-pound food and supply cases and crates of milk.
  • Ability to bend, twist, stoop, stretch and reach up overhead or down to the floor.
  • Ability to learn management duties to cover in the event of the Kitchen Manager's absence.
  • Ability to check and read daily emails.
  • Ability to perform basic computer skills as required for completing timesheets and other required documents.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with management of the school kitchen.
  • Assist with food preparation and serving of meals to students.
  • Assist with meal planning.
  • Assist with food and supply orders.
  • Assist with Kitchen Cleanup after Meal Service is complete.
  • Fill in for the Kitchen Manager in her absence.
  • Perform Monthly Kitchen stock (food and supplies) Inventories.
  • Learn how to operate the register by scanning student cards to account for the meals they are serving.
  • Check and read daily emails.
  • Perform basic computer skills as required for completing timesheets and other required documents.
  • Discuss prearranged absences with both their Kitchen Manager and the Food & Nutrition Services Administrator.
  • Work well with others and treat co-workers, students and staff with respect.
