About The Position

Established in 1972, Mount Vernon School serves over 1,250 students in Preschool through Grade 12 on our 40-acre Atlanta campus. The Team The Lower School Team works collaboratively to teach foundational literacies and build hands-on inquiry/project-based experiences for students. Each gravel-level team is led by a Head of Grade and works with a Learning Coach to meet the needs of every individual student. Leveraging tools and resources such as visible thinking routines, off-campus expeditions, mindfulness/SEL, internal/external experts, and a team of connectors (Maker, Performing Arts, Physical Educator, Science, Spanish, Visual Arts) the Lower School team is able to activate agency and imagination for our learners who are ready to make an impact today. The Role This position has the opportunity to co-design dynamic learning opportunities for Kindergarten students that build foundational skills (literacy, numeracy) using methodologies such as Orton-Gillingham and leverage inquiry-based learning pedagogies such as PBL. This role is important because we want to instill a love for learning and a solid foundation for our youngest learners. Strong candidates will have a background in Kindergarten/Early Childhood Education, excitement about competency-based learning & inquiry-based methods, and be excellent collaborators with an eye for detail and a growth mindset.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in early Childhood Education, Elementary Education, or a related field

Nice To Haves

  • Teaching Certificate (preferred)
  • Classroom experience (preferred)
  • Orton-Gillingham literacy training (preferred)

Responsibilities

  • Co-teaching/facilitating daily learning experiences with a group of 12 to 18 students
  • Co-designing curriculum and assessment with Grade-level team
  • Maintaining comprehensive records of performance, progress, and goals using MV tools
  • Communicating with families, learning coaches, and outside providers
  • Participating in weekly school/division/team meetings and professional growth opportunities
  • Meeting the needs of the division by helping with weekly coverage and duties
