About The Position

This is a non-tenure-track faculty appointment at one of four locations in Jackson and Williamson Counties. Reporting to the Center Director, the Lead Teacher maintains a program of developmentally appropriate classroom instruction and provides a safe and nurturing environment in accordance with the Head Start Program Performance Standards, Program Policies and Procedures, and Department of Children and Family Services Licensing Standards. This is a grant-funded position represented by SIU Carbondale Non-Tenure Track Faculty Association/IEA-NEA. Final offer pending grant funding.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education or a related field
  • One year of experience working with children ages 3 to 5

Nice To Haves

  • 12 credit hours of ECE-related coursework preferred

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the delivery of high-quality, developmentally appropriate, and culturally and linguistically appropriate instruction for three to five-year-old children.
  • Engage in classroom management strategies that keep all children both physically and emotionally safe. This includes implementing active supervision, ensuring that no child is ever left unattended.
  • Assist in the completion of accurate and timely developmental screenings and other outcome measures as required by the department.
  • Assist in the completion of home visits and parent-teacher conferences per requirements.
  • Fulfill role as a mandated reporter by ensuring suspected child abuse or neglect is reported to state hotline.
  • Work closely with the Lead Teacher to support an environment conducive to social-emotional development.
  • Assist in the collection and preparing of in-kind documents.
  • Assist in the full implementation of a child’s Individualized Education Plan (IEP).
  • Complete and track annual professional development requirements.
  • Other duties as assigned.
