About The Position

Fulfills curricular and advising needs in Fundamentals: Issues and Texts, an undergraduate major that currently serves approximately 70 students in the College. Students in Fundamentals structure their education around an open-ended question of their own design. Students’ approaches are informed by coursework that focuses on single texts (or a set of tightly-grouped texts) taught by faculty in a range of disciplines including—but not limited to—philosophy, literature, political theory, religion, and history.

Requirements

PhD in Comparative literature, English literature, philosophy, religion, or a related humanities field.
Experience in undergraduate advising.
Experience working collaboratively with faculty and administrators in a number of disciplinary, geographic and chronological frameworks.

Responsibilities

Teaches a range of courses that count towards students’ major requirements, including writing seminars and topics courses.
Advises students about relevant course offerings across a number of divisions and departments at the University of Chicago.
Guides students through the milestones in the program.
Participates, in conjunction with faculty, in the assessment of students’ written work.
Writes letters of recommendation for students.
Assists with the organization of program events, including guest lectures, outings, and special seminars.
