The Assistant Head Technician-Lighting is responsible for supervising the operation of the Lighting Department of the Chan Centre for the Performing Arts during set-ups and performances. During evening/weekend events or performances, this role may be responsible for the management of the facility. The position involves assisting in training, overseeing, and scheduling staff, and supervising stage technicians as required. This role ensures that client requirements are met in a timely manner, works within the provided schedule, and resolves client problems related to stage and backstage areas with direction from the Production Manager. The Assistant Head Technician-Lighting ensures the effective implementation of new and previously arranged Production Services to clients, following the guidelines provided in the Chan Centre Production Policy and Procedures. They also recommend policies and procedures to the Production Manager, and in conjunction with the Ticket, Bar, and Front of House Coordinators, ensure performances and events run smoothly. This role oversees and ensures that negotiated client production requirements are met for each performance event and represents the Chan Centre to the general public, clients, and Artist’s representatives, including staff and students from various departments and faculties. Additionally, the position ensures the security of the building and the safety of performers, staff, and patrons, reports deficiencies of building amenities to the Production Manager, and compiles performance and event reports. The Assistant Head Technician-Lighting acts as the primary stage technician on some events and performs other related duties as required. Errors in judgment could have a serious impact on relations with clients and patrons, negatively affecting patron safety and the Chan Centre’s financial viability. Clients are expected to be treated courteously and cheerfully at all times.
