About The Position

Swan Valley Co-op is hiring a full-time Assistant Grocery Manager at our Food Store location in Swan River, MB. Co-op does business differently. As a co-operative, we believe in working together to serve Western Canadians, delivering profits back to our communities and investing in sustainable growth. The successful candidate is responsible for supporting the Grocery Manager in managing and overseeing the operations of the Grocery Department. You will also assist in leadership, guidance, and mentorship to the Co-op team members. Our team provides a range of products and services to support our member-owners. Through the work that we do, we help to build, fuel, feed and grow Western Canadian communities together.

Requirements

  • Excellent customer service skills, communication skills and the ability to problem solve.
  • Belief in building relationships and collaborating to deliver solutions that matter most, and recognition of the value that different perspectives bring to meet shared objectives.
  • 3 - 5 years retail experience.
  • 2 - 3 years leadership or supervisory experience.
  • Able to work a variety of shifts including days, evenings and weekends.
  • Able to be available for calls after hours and for emergencies.
  • Able to stand for long periods of time.
  • Able to perform regular heavy lifting up to 50 lbs.
  • Willing to obtain Forklift certification through on-site instruction.
  • Willing to participate in personal development focusing on competencies required for the position.

Nice To Haves

  • Post secondary education in a related field would be an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrate behaviours and actions that support Swan Valley Co-op's vision, mission, and values.
  • Proactively lead a culture of safety and maximize operational efficiency.
  • Assist with the activities and operations of the Grocery Department to achieve budgeted goals, including but not limited to ordering, merchandising, margins, expenses, culture, scheduling, and productivity.
  • Participate in the recruitment and selection of new team members, and assist in providing leadership through coaching, development and feedback.
  • Lead and supervise a team of 30+.
  • Build strong customer relationships and deliver solutions, continually striving to improve retail guest services.
  • Set an example to other Team Members by strict adherence to personnel policies and departmental procedures.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned.
