About The Position

The Assistant Golf Course Superintendent works closely with the Golf Course Superintendent in all aspects of golf course maintenance and turfgrass management. This position plays a key role in implementing agronomic programs, overseeing irrigation systems, managing chemical and fertilizer applications, supervising staff, monitoring water usage, and scouting for turfgrass diseases and pests. The Assistant Superintendent helps ensure consistent, high-quality playing conditions throughout the property.

Valid State Pesticide Applicator License (required)

Turfgrass degree or certificate (preferred)

Responsibilities

Inspect all playing surfaces daily, including greens, tees, fairways, rough, native areas, and surrounding grounds
Monitor overall turf health, including stress levels, disease presence, moisture management, and pest activity
Ensure mowing heights and cut quality meet established standards
Make informed irrigation decisions, including adjusting run times and head-by-head percentages as needed
Maintain consistent course conditions in alignment with agronomic goals
Lead daily crew meetings, assign tasks, provide training, and ensure work is completed efficiently and to standard
Adapt to changing priorities and conditions; demonstrate flexibility in daily scheduling
Ensure proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE) during chemical, fertilizer, and project applications
Assist with chemical and fertilizer applications in compliance with all safety regulations
Order supplies with Superintendent approval and assist in inventory management
Work collaboratively with the Superintendent and Equipment Manager
Ensure all machinery and equipment are operating safely and effectively
Demonstrate strong leadership, communication skills, and a commitment to continued professional development
Perform physical labor as required
