About The Position

This role provides technical, supervisory, and administrative support to the Golf Course Superintendent. The Assistant Golf Course Superintendent is responsible for managing a team and ensuring that the resort’s outdoor spaces meet high-quality standards while maintaining environmental stewardship. This includes coordinating with vendors, planning and overseeing landscaping and horticultural operations, leading staff, managing budgets, and implementing garden and food production plans.

Requirements

  • Minimum two years of experience in golf course maintenance.
  • English fluency required.
  • Thorough knowledge of turf varieties and their use and maintenance, and generally accepted cultural practices.
  • Familiarity with safe application and compatibility of pesticides.
  • Working knowledge of fertilizers and soil chemistry.
  • Ability to identify common turf diseases, insects, and weeds.
  • California Qualified Applicator’s license required.
  • Familiarity with OSHA, SB198, local Department of Health regulations, and relevant current laws governing handling of hazardous substances.
  • Demonstrated ability to train staff and ensure first-class customer service.
  • Strong written and verbal communications skills.

Responsibilities

  • Support Golf Maintenance team members to ensure production and quality standards are met.
  • Coordinate departmental needs with vendors.
  • Plan, coordinate, and oversee landscaping and horticultural operations across the golf resort, including gardens, pathways, water features, and non-play areas.
  • Lead and supervise landscaping staff, providing training, scheduling, and performance management.
  • Oversee budgets, purchasing, and inventory management for landscaping materials and equipment.
  • Implement multi-year/season garden plans.
  • Implement food/crop production goals for on-site culinary use.
  • Perform technical horticultural or agronomic tests and evaluations.
  • Provide administrative and record-keeping data to the Golf Course Superintendent, including purchase orders, invoices, and employee time cards.
  • Assist in the preparation of annual capital expenditure budgets and annual operating budgets.
  • Assist in planning the day-to-day schedule of golf course maintenance.
  • Conduct departmental safety training for all new Golf Maintenance employees before they begin to work.
  • Conduct departmental operations meetings, including monthly safety meetings.
  • Practice safe work habits at all times to avoid injury to self and others.
  • Continually monitor and control departmental expenditures to ensure meeting operational standards while maintaining annual budget.
  • Purchase supplies and services, and schedule all maintenance procedures.
  • Respond to all guest requests in a timely and professional manner.
  • Promote and comply with all policies and procedures of Temecula Creek Inn.
  • Immediately report all suspicious occurrences and hazardous conditions.
  • Maintain the cleanliness and safety of work areas at all times.
  • Ensure safe work practices of all Golf Course Maintenance staff, including compliance with company and departmental safety rules and regulations and the proper use and handling of all relevant equipment and machinery.
  • Ensure departmental safety training for all new golf shop employees before they begin to work.
  • Attend all mandatory meetings.
  • Perform other tasks, including cross-training, as directed.
