About The Position

University High School (UHS) in San Francisco, California, is seeking an enthusiastic, dedicated, and passionate Assistant Golf Coach. The successful candidate will join a dynamic athletic department that believes athletics is an integral and valuable component of our students' overall educational experience. At University High School, we believe that participation in athletics develops far more than athletic ability. Through meaningful coaching relationships and competitive experiences, student-athletes build resilience, confidence, leadership, accountability, and teamwork that prepare them for success in the classroom, in college, and throughout their lives. University High School is a coeducational independent day school serving approximately 514 students in grades 9-12. Founded in 1975, the school's mission is to challenge each individual to live a life of integrity, inquiry, and purpose larger than the self. The Assistant Golf Coach works collaboratively with the Program Head and Varsity Head Coach to support all aspects of the Boys and Girls Golf program. The Assistant Coach plays an important role in creating a positive, challenging, and inclusive experience for student-athletes while helping develop their technical skills, confidence, sportsmanship, and love for the game. The ideal candidate is an outstanding teacher, communicator, and mentor who is committed to educational athletics and enjoys working with high school students of varying skill levels.

Requirements

  • Previous coaching or playing experience in golf at the high school, collegiate, or professional level preferred.
  • Experience working with adolescents in a coaching, teaching, or mentoring capacity is preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of golf fundamentals, rules, etiquette, and player development.
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a team-oriented athletic department.
  • Willingness to obtain or maintain CPR, First Aid, and required NFHS coaching certifications.
  • Passion for teaching and mentoring young people.
  • Positive, energetic, and relationship-driven.
  • Patient, dependable, and highly organized.

  • Strong character and professionalism.
  • Dedicated to using athletics as a vehicle for developing confident, compassionate, and resilient young adults.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with planning and conducting engaging, well-organized practices.
  • Teach golf fundamentals, course management, rules, etiquette, and sportsmanship.
  • Provide individualized instruction and constructive feedback that supports each student's development.
  • Foster confidence, resilience, and a growth mindset while encouraging athletes to compete at their highest level.
  • Assist with supervising practices, matches, and team events.
  • Help organize equipment, transportation logistics, and match-day operations.
  • Support a safe, positive, and well-managed environment for all participants.
  • Help monitor player progress throughout the season.
  • Build positive relationships with student-athletes while serving as a trusted mentor and role model.
  • Encourage accountability, teamwork, integrity, and respect on and off the course.
  • Support the academic and personal growth of student-athletes while reinforcing the values of University High School Athletics.
  • Work closely with the Program Head, assistant coaches, Athletics Department, and school community.
  • Communicate professionally with student-athletes, families, and school personnel.
  • Represent University High School with integrity, professionalism, and enthusiasm at all times.
  • Help ensure compliance with all University High School, BCL, NCS, and CIF policies and procedures.
  • Maintain a safe and inclusive environment for all student-athletes.
  • Support student-athlete wellness and model appropriate sportsmanship and ethical behavior.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to the philosophy of educational athletics.
  • Support a program culture built upon character, belonging, accountability, leadership, and continuous improvement.
  • Help create an experience where every student-athlete feels valued, challenged, and connected.
