About The Position

Waltham Public Schools, a member of the Dual County League, is seeking two Assistant Girls Indoor Track and Field Coaches. This role involves contributing to the overall athletic program by applying sound educational principles and ensuring athletics are a valuable part of the school experience. The coaches will work as part of a team to support student-athletes' success.

Requirements

  • Experience coaching at the high school level in this sport.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Ability to work as part of a team.
  • Understanding of sound educational principles and the goals of athletics.
  • Familiarity with the NFHS Coaches Code of Ethics.
  • Knowledge of the Massachusetts Interscholastic Athletic Association Handbook.
  • Knowledge of the WHS Student Handbook.

Responsibilities

  • Model behaviors outlined in the NFHS Coaches Code of Ethics, especially sportsmanship.
  • Assist with demonstrating full control of the team in all coaching and athletic discipline matters.
  • Facilitate supervision of athletes during practice sessions and all contests (home or away), including the weight room, locker room, shower areas, and buses before and after practices and contests.
  • Implement WHS athletic department policies and team rules.
  • Be responsible for information contained in the Massachusetts Interscholastic Athletic Association Handbook and the WHS Student Handbook.
  • Attend all Athletic Department and WHS meetings related to the sport coached.
  • Stay informed of rule changes, trends, and recommendations affecting the sport.
  • Be responsible for assisting with team evaluation and selection.
  • Assist with the development and organization of effective practice plans.
  • Provide effective feedback for competitive growth and development.
  • Ensure facilities and equipment are safe and that safety procedures are taught and followed.
  • Assist with the implementation of game plans and game management, including score reporting and returning officials' vouchers immediately after a contest.
  • Support the varsity coach when appropriate.
  • Foster partnerships with community athletic groups to create continuity in programming.
  • Offer clinics and camps.
  • Establish communication with other adults to identify potential resources for enhancing WHS athletes and athletics.
  • Develop a coaching approach that encourages outreach to athletes' caregivers and invested stakeholders.
  • Work with WHS Athletic staff for distribution and collection of school athletic equipment and uniforms.
  • Work collaboratively with all other Waltham High School coaches, under the direction of the Athletic Director, including coordinating schedules.
  • Perform other duties/responsibilities assigned by the Director of Athletics.
