About The Position

Waltham Public Schools has an immediate opening for an Assistant Boys Indoor Track and Field Coach. This role is part of the Dual County League. The coach will be responsible for ensuring that all activities sponsored by Waltham Athletics are part of the total program offered by Waltham Public Schools. Candidates should have experience coaching at the high school level in this sport, possess strong communication skills, and be able to work collaboratively to support the success of student-athletes. The position requires the utilization of sound educational principles to make athletics a worthwhile part of the overall school experience.

Responsibilities

  • Model the behaviors outlined in the NFHS Coaches Code of Ethics, especially those pertaining to sportsmanship.
  • Assist with demonstrating full control of the team in all matters pertaining to coaching and athletic discipline.
  • Facilitate supervision of athletes during practice sessions and at all contests, home or away, including supervision of the weight room, locker room, shower areas, and buses before and after practices and contests.
  • Implement WHS athletic department policies and team rules.
  • Be responsible for information contained in the Massachusetts Interscholastic Athletic Association Handbook and the WHS Student Handbook.
  • Attend all Athletic Department and WHS meetings that relate to the sport coached.
  • Stay informed of rule changes, trends, and recommendations that affect their particular sport.
  • Be responsible for assisting with team evaluation and selection.
  • Assist with the development and organization of effective practice plans.
  • Provide effective feedback for competitive growth and development.
  • Ensure that facilities and equipment are safe and that safety procedures are taught and followed in all areas.
  • Assist with the implementation of game plans and game management where appropriate, including score reporting and returning officials' vouchers immediately following a contest.
  • Support the varsity coach when appropriate.
  • Foster partnerships with athletic groups in the community to create continuity in programming at various levels.
  • Offer clinics and camps.
  • Establish avenues of communication with other adults to identify potential resources for the enhancement of WHS athletes and athletics.
  • Develop an approach to coaching which encourages outreach to the caregivers of the athletes and invested stakeholders.
  • Work with the WHS Athletic staff for distribution and collection of the school's athletic equipment and uniforms before, during, and after the coaching season, including safety devices and materials.
  • Work collaboratively with all other Waltham High School coaches, under the direction of the Athletic Director, including coordinating schedules of games, practices, and events.
  • Perform other duties/responsibilities assigned by the Director of Athletics.
