About The Position

Reporting to the General Manager, the Assistant General Manager oversees the daily Aramark foodservice at the University of Toronto Scarborough campus. This role is responsible for the management of services under contract with the Client and involves interaction with the client, customers, and employees. The Assistant General Manager will also collaborate to provide a vision for growing the business. Culinary experiences and well-maintained environments are fundamental to student success. Aramark chefs and dietitians focus on culinary innovation and helping students discover their love of food. The company partners to enhance the student experience, support parents, and collaborate with administration while meeting the expectations of parents and the community.

Requirements

  • 2-4 years management experience in high-volume, multi-unit food service operations
  • Experience in high volume catering and conference services is required
  • Ability to manage in a diverse environment with a focus on client and customer services, systems, and processes
  • Proficiency in all Microsoft office suite applications is required

Nice To Haves

  • Post-secondary degree or diploma in Hospitality, Food & Beverage or Business is preferred
  • Previous restaurant or hotel management related experience is an asset
  • Previous experience managing franchise operations is an asset
  • Previous experience managing a unionized environment is preferred
  • Objectively monitor plans and projects; seek process improvements
  • Ability to effectively communicate with clients, customers and staff and shift with changing demands
  • Personal ownership and responsibility to build performance-based relationships; create the right solutions to address specific needs

Responsibilities

  • Establish and maintain procedures for purchasing, receiving, storage, preparation, food service
  • Coordinate and supervise staff on food production, merchandising, quality and cost control, labour, scheduling, staffing, and training
  • Assist front line managers with any operational and staffing issues
  • Train, develop and mentor the management team and establish succession plans
  • Monitor financial operating results to achieve company and client objectives
  • Contribute to business plans, budgets, and forecasts; maintain accurate and timely reporting
  • Assist in menu planning, and develop new initiatives and programs to increase sales
  • Ensure all operating standards are achieved for sanitation, and food safety
  • Maintain records to comply with Aramark and government standards
  • Ensure adherence to Aramark’s policies and procedures and Health and Safety Programs
