About The Position

The Assistant General Manager will work closely with the General Manager and company leadership to help successfully open, stabilize, and grow a brand-new Element by Marriott hotel in the Short Pump market. This role involves involvement across the entire operation, including Front Office, Housekeeping, Food & Beverage, Engineering, Guest Experience, Sales, Revenue Management, Labor Management, Financial Performance, Brand Standards, and Team Development. The Assistant General Manager is expected to understand the hotel's operations, support department leaders, step into the operation when needed, and ensure guests and associates experience hospitality at its best. This position is ideal for a leader who thrives on ownership, accountability, and active involvement in the property's success.

  • Marriott brand experience preferred.
  • New hotel opening or hotel transition experience is highly desirable.
  • Experience with hotel budgeting and forecasting.
  • Experience reviewing hotel P&L statements.
  • Familiarity with STR performance and revenue strategy.
  • Experience managing labor productivity and departmental expenses.
  • Strong Front Office and Housekeeping experience.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the General Manager with the overall daily operation and performance of the hotel.
  • Help establish operational procedures, standards, and expectations during the hotel opening.
  • Provide hands-on leadership across all departments.
  • Serve as the senior hotel leader when the General Manager is unavailable.
  • Maintain a visible presence throughout the property.
  • Support departments during high-volume periods and operational challenges.
  • Identify problems quickly and take ownership of solutions.
  • Ensure departments work together efficiently and consistently.
  • Help recruit, onboard, train, and develop hotel associates.
  • Support department leaders through coaching, accountability, and recognition.

  • Monitor and influence occupancy, ADR, RevPAR, guest satisfaction, labor productivity, departmental expenses, revenue opportunities, housekeeping productivity, Food & Beverage performance, and hotel profitability.
  • Work with the General Manager and department leaders to identify opportunities, control expenses, manage labor, and improve overall property performance.
  • Assist with budget management, forecasting, labor planning, expense control, purchasing, inventory, financial reviews, operational reporting, revenue strategy, department performance, and ownership and corporate reporting.
  • Understand how daily operational decisions impact the financial success of the hotel.
  • Work closely with Sales and Revenue Management to understand hotel demand.
  • Review occupancy, rate strategy, group activity, and upcoming business.
  • Support strategies designed to increase occupancy, ADR, and total hotel revenue.
  • Help identify local business and community opportunities.
  • Understand the hotel's competitive market and positioning.
  • Support efforts to develop the Element Richmond Short Pump as a preferred hotel in the market.
  • Ensure compliance with Marriott and Element brand standards.
  • Support hotel readiness for brand evaluations and inspections.
  • Maintain strong cleanliness, safety, and operational standards.
  • Ensure compliance with company policies and procedures.
  • Partner with Engineering to maintain the condition of the property.
  • Help ensure the hotel remains inspection-ready every day.
