Assistant General Manager - Novus
About The Position
The Assistant General Manager supports the overall success of a Salt & Straw shop by leading people, operational execution, and guest experience in a fast-paced retail and food service environment. Working closely with the General Manager, this role supports daily retail and food service operations, develops strong teams, and helps create exceptional experiences for employees and guests. The Assistant General Manager helps drive operational excellence, foster an engaging and inclusive shop culture, and make the shop a neighborhood destination. The position is full-time at the Novus location in Tempe, Arizona. The hiring wage is $24.87–$26.53 per hour, with broader earning potential up to $30.40 per hour and quarterly bonus potential. The role involves working in an environment where common food allergens are present, including peanuts, tree nuts, dairy, eggs, soy, wheat, and seafood.
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED.
- At least 2 years of food service, fast-casual dining, or hospitality experience.
- At least 18 months of progressive leadership experience.
- Experience leading teams of 10 or more Team Members in a high-volume environment.
- Ability to coach, develop, and support people with clarity and care.
- Interest in growing into greater leadership responsibility.
- Must be at least 18 years old.
- Availability to work evenings, weekends, and holidays.
Responsibilities
- Partner with the General Manager to achieve operational, cultural, and financial goals.
- Lead shifts to ensure smooth operations and exceptional guest experiences.
- Plan and execute daily shift schedules, task assignments, and team safety.
- Coach, mentor, and provide feedback to Team Members, Shift Coordinators, and Scoopers.
- Support recruiting, hiring, onboarding, training, and retention of a high-performing team.
- Manage cash transactions and inventory, and ensure product quality and food safety.
- Assist with payroll, supplies, shop communications, and daily documentation.
- Monitor labor and sales performance and support monthly P&L insights.
- Partner on maintenance needs and vendor communications.
- Deliver memorable hospitality, share flavor stories, and resolve guest concerns.
- Step into team roles as needed and participate in community events.
