About The Position

The Assistant General Manager (AGM) partners with the Distribution Center (DC) General Manager to deliver on the safety, operational, and financial goals of a high-volume, multi-shift distribution center. This role plays a critical part in leading transformation by fostering a culture of accountability, ownership, and continuous improvement, while ensuring the DC operates safely, efficiently, and with excellence. The AGM is responsible for leading through others to drive execution, develop future leaders, and embed a culture that thrives on change, innovation, and operational discipline. Success requires strong leadership presence, the ability to inspire teams, and the resilience to guide others through change in a fast-paced retail environment.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 5 years of progressive leadership experience in distribution or supply chain, with proven success managing large teams in a high-volume environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead through change, build accountable teams, and drive measurable results.
  • Strong background in supply chain systems (WMS, MHS, YMS; automation experience preferred).
  • Excellent communication, problem-solving, and analytical skills; able to influence and engage across all levels.
  • Must be able to read, write and communicate in English.
  • Proven ability to coach, develop, and inspire leaders in a fast-paced, multi-shift operation.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite; advanced Excel skills preferred.
  • Flexible and resilient, with the ability to adjust to evolving business needs and priorities.

Responsibilities

  • Champion a world-class safety culture by ensuring compliance, accountability, and engagement at all levels.
  • Promote a workplace where safety, inclusion, and respect are foundational to performance.
  • Partner with the General Manager to oversee DC performance against key metrics (safety, productivity, service, cost, and quality).
  • Take ownership of results, ensuring operational objectives are consistently achieved or exceeded.
  • Lead and inspire 2 Operation Managers, 8–10 Supervisors, and 175–250 team members, modeling accountability, engagement, and open communication.
  • Build leadership capability through coaching, performance management, and succession planning.
  • Drive transformation by leading process improvements, embracing innovation, and executing change management strategies that improve efficiency, accuracy, and adaptability.
  • Determine labor needs, create flexible work schedules, and manage payroll and expenses in alignment with operational goals.
  • Partner with leadership on budgeting, cost control, and resource allocation.
  • Collaborate closely with operations, supply chain, and corporate partners to deliver seamless, customer-focused execution.
  • Communicate the company’s vision and goals clearly, ensuring alignment and buy-in across shifts.
  • Interpret key distribution metrics, identify performance gaps, and implement data-backed solutions that raise the bar on efficiency, accuracy, and overall performance.
  • Lead the safe and efficient operation of a highly automated distribution center, including driverless forklifts (AGVs/AMRs) and automated offloading systems.
  • Partner with engineering and maintenance teams to optimize system performance, minimize downtime, and continuously improve throughput, accuracy, and safety within an advanced material handling environment.
