In this highly visible role, you will serve as a trusted advisor to leadership, partnering across HR, Labor Relations, and operations to deliver practical legal guidance, manage risk, and ensure compliance. This is an opportunity to lead high-impact litigation and counseling efforts while influencing enterprise-wide decisions that support both our people and business objectives.

Requirements

  • J.D. from an ABA-accredited law school required.
  • Active membership in good standing with a U.S. state bar required (Florida Bar membership or eligibility preferred).
  • 8-10+ years of progressive experience as a labor and employment attorney, with significant law firm experience required and a mix of law firm and in-house experience preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience managing the full lifecycle of employment claims and litigation, including administrative charges, federal and state court proceedings, and alternative dispute resolution.
  • Meaningful experience advising on labor relations matters in a unionized environment, including collective bargaining negotiations, grievance and arbitration proceedings, and NLRA compliance.
  • Experience conducting or overseeing complex workplace investigations.
  • Deep working knowledge of federal and state employment laws and regulations (Title VII, ADA, ADEA, FMLA, FLSA, NLRA, OSHA, WARN Act, and analogous state/local statutes).
  • Strong understanding of labor relations law, CBA administration, and arbitration practice.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel).

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in a multi-state, operationally complex environment strongly preferred; transportation, logistics, maritime, or energy industry experience a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Provide practical, strategic legal counsel on a broad range of employment matters, including hiring, compensation and benefits, performance management, discipline and terminations, reductions in force, accommodations, leaves of absence, and workplace safety.
  • Advise HR and business leaders on compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations (e.g., Title VII, ADA, ADEA, FMLA, FLSA, OSHA, WARN Act, and analogous state/local laws).
  • Draft, review, and update employment policies and procedures to ensure legal compliance and alignment with best practices.
  • Monitor and interpret emerging developments in employment law and proactively communicate impacts, risks, and recommended strategies to business leaders and HR partners.
  • Develop and deliver training programs for managers and HR on employment law topics, workplace investigations, and risk mitigation—imparting “lessons learned” from litigation and other matters.
  • Manage employment-related claims, litigation, and disputes in federal and state courts, arbitration tribunals, and administrative agencies, including EEOC, DOL, OSHA, and state equivalents.
  • Oversee and manage outside counsel handling employment litigation—including budgeting, strategy, and disposition recommendations.
  • Evaluate, investigate, and respond to attorney demand letters, government investigations, audits, and enforcement actions.
  • Support the investigations team with internal workplace investigations related to employee complaints, policy violations, harassment, discrimination, retaliation, and other sensitive matters.
  • Manage pre-litigation dispute resolution, mediations, and settlement negotiations.
  • Serve as a primary legal advisor on all union and labor relations matters, including collective bargaining agreement (CBA) interpretation, negotiation, and administration.
  • Participate in and support collective bargaining negotiations, working collaboratively with Labor Relations to develop management proposals and bargaining strategy.
  • Advise on grievance procedures, arbitrations, unfair labor practice charges, and other matters arising under the National Labor Relations Act and related statutes.
  • Represent or coordinate representation of the company in labor arbitration proceedings.
  • Provide counsel on union organizing campaigns, picketing, strikes, and other labor actions.
  • Serve as a trusted advisor to HR leadership, operational leaders, and senior management on complex and sensitive employment and labor issues.
  • Support M&A, joint ventures, and other strategic transactions from an employment and labor law perspective—including due diligence and compliance assessments.
  • Partner with the Ethics & Compliance function on complaints, whistleblower protections, and related regulatory requirements.
  • Collaborate with other members of HR, the Legal team and cross-functional partners to help solve enterprise-wide workforce issues.
