Assistant General Counsel, Compliance @ General Matter
About The Position
General Matter is seeking a senior Compliance Attorney to help build and lead its legal compliance function at a pivotal moment for the company and the nation. As the first compliance-focused attorney, you will work closely with the General Counsel to design and implement compliance strategies that enable business growth while minimizing risk across one of the most heavily regulated industries in America. This high-impact role offers significant autonomy and responsibility, with opportunities to collaborate directly with business and technical leaders. You will address complex issues spanning export controls, classified information, environmental, health, safety, and nuclear licensing. The position requires tactical judgment, strong interpersonal skills, and deep subject matter expertise. Depending on experience, the role may be structured as Deputy or Associate General Counsel.
Requirements
- J.D. degree
- At least 8 years of legal experience
- Substantial expertise in export controls, classification, and/or nuclear compliance
- Tactical judgment
