Assistant Football Coach
About The Position
This position is responsible for assisting in the administration of the designated sports program, including developing team philosophies, supervising players, managing equipment inventory, and contributing to the program's budget. The role involves maintaining fields and facilities, preparing practice and game plans, and supervising an off-season strength and conditioning program. Additionally, the Assistant Football Coach will support player academic progress, assist with injury care, and foster positive relationships within the school and community. Adherence to WVSSAC rules and participation in required clinics and staff development are essential. The position also involves assisting with fundraising activities and promoting sportsmanship and academic achievement among athletes.
Requirements
- Candidates must possess or be eligible for West Virginia Teacher Certification; or, possess or have the ability to obtain the WV Coaching Authorization (High School Diploma or GED Required), prior to the start of the season.
- Successful completion of a three-day ASEP / WVSSAC certification training class, with three online exams
- Followed by four NFHS / WVSSAC online courses, with online exams and required Safeschools trainings
- Applicants who have been dismissed or who have had their contracts non-renewed for cause by another school district are not eligible for consideration
- Applicants who have recent unsatisfactory evaluations are not to be considered eligible for consideration
- Applicants who demonstrate unsatisfactory interview performance are not eligible for consideration
- Applicants who receive unfavorable reference recommendations will not be eligible for consideration
- The ability to perform the job duties and responsibilities of the position as contained in the Job Description, with or without reasonable accommodation

Responsibilities
- Assisting in the administration of the designated sports program
- Assist in the development of team philosophies and responsibilities
- Supervision of players

- Work with head coach and athletic director/principal on program budget

- Supervise an off-season strength and conditioning program

- Develop positive relationship with players, parents, students, coaches, band, faculty, officials, media, and the community
- Be knowledgeable of all WVSSAC rules and strictly adhere to the same
- Attend required WVSSAC clinics
- Assist in organizing supplemental funding activities to support the program
- Cooperate in supervision and evaluation of coach(es)
- Participate in staff development opportunities for assistant coaches
- Participate in the school’s Sportsmanship Program and Scholar/Athlete Program
- Cooperate with athletic director/principal, head coach, and fellow coaches and students to promote the best interested of the entire athletic program
- Communicate effectively with head coach, athletic director and/or principal regarding all operations and activities
- Perform additional, reasonable, job-related responsibilities as assigned by the head coach, athletic director and/or building principal
