Under general supervision, assist the board in the fair and just discharge of its obligation to students and staff through performance of the Head Coach role over and beyond the duties of a classroom teacher. Reports to the school principal and athletic director. This role requires thorough knowledge of all Athletic Policies approved by the Catawba County Schools Board of Education and responsibility for its implementation by the entire staff of the sports program. The position involves understanding and implementing school system, state, and conference regulations, and referring all requests or grievances through the proper administrative channels. The Assistant Football Coach must establish the fundamental philosophy, skills, and techniques to be taught by staff, and train and inform staff, encouraging professional growth. They will delegate specific duties, supervise implementation, and evaluate assistants at the end of the season. The role also involves assisting the Athletic Director in scheduling, transportation, and requirements for events, as well as preparing for scheduled sport events or practices and coordinating with maintenance and school employees. Providing necessary documentation for state and system requirements, ensuring proper safeguards for equipment, and advising the Athletic Director on policy changes are also key responsibilities. The coach must provide training rules and unique regulations of the sport to each participant, give constant attention to student-athletes' grades and conduct, and be present at all practices and games. Initiating programs for injuries, medical attention, and emergencies, and completing proper paperwork for disabling athletic injuries are critical. The position includes directing student managers, assistants, and statisticians, determining discipline, and contacting parents when a student becomes ineligible. Assisting athletes in college or advanced educational selection and participating in budgeting are also part of the role. The coach will recommend guidelines for equipment and operate within budget appropriations, being accountable for all equipment and fees for lost or unreturned items. Arranging for issuing, storing, and reconditioning equipment, and submitting annual inventory and current records are required. The coach must properly mark and identify all equipment, monitor equipment rooms, and permit athletes only in authorized areas. Examining locker rooms for cleanliness and maintaining the cleanliness and maintenance of specific sport equipment are also duties. Securing the building and instilling respect for equipment and school property are essential. The role involves organizing parents, coaches, players, and guests for pre-season meetings, promoting the sport within and outside the school, and being responsible for the quality of any release to local media. Maintaining good public relations and presenting information to news media are also expected. Performs other duties as assigned by the school Principal.
