About The Position

This is a seasonal position for an Assistant Football Coach at Cañon City Middle School for the 2026-2027 School Year, running from August to October. The role involves coaching techniques, managing practice sessions, injury prevention, game planning, and equipment accountability. The coach is expected to promote ethical and fair play, teach skills and techniques pertinent to the sport, and model and monitor behavior and academics. The position also requires aiding in the development of the overall person and being fair and unprejudiced with players, sensitive to individual differences. The coach will represent the school and district positively, demonstrating diligence, enthusiasm, integrity, honesty, and a love for the game. Public demeanor and decorum should always reflect positively on the coach, team, athletic department, school, and community. A high level of discipline is required among coaches, players, and support staff, with the coach responsible for implementing discipline and maintaining a positive attitude. Coaches are expected to continuously seek self-improvement through attending meetings, clinics, and workshops, and maintaining membership in professional organizations. They must also cooperate fully with building staff, other programs, media, support staff, administration, maintenance staff, and transportation.

Requirements

Be a certified teacher or administrator holding a current certificate issued by the Colorado Department of Education, OR
Be employed as a teacher, counselor, and/or administrator for at least 50% of the school day in a private school, OR
Be a registered volunteer with Canon City Schools.

Responsibilities

Develop good rapport with numerous individuals and community groups, including team personnel, the student body, professional staff, the community, spectators, officials, fellow coaches, media representatives, and parents.
Work cooperatively with the school's athletic director, administration, other staff, team, and parents.

Maintain exemplary personal appearance, dress, physical condition, public demeanor, and decorum.
Implement and maintain a high level of discipline among coaches, players, and support staff.

Follow a prescribed routine and communicate well with the patient, trainer, and parents when injuries occur.

Keep assistant coaches, volunteers, student managers, and statisticians well-informed of expectations.
Cooperate fully with building staff, other programs, media, support staff, and administration.
Cooperate fully with maintenance staff, transportation, and others involved in support of the program.
Promote and teach only ethical, aggressive, and fair play while always stressing good sportsmanship.
Teach skills and techniques pertinent to the sport.
Continually model and monitor behavior and academics.
Aid in the development of the overall person.

Cooperate with every faculty member, including allowing athletes to make up tests or homework during practice time.
Keep the practice area and locker rooms in order.

File proper maintenance requests on large items of need.
