About The Position

The Inn at Stonecliffe is seeking a hands-on, service-focused Assistant Food and Beverage Manager to help support the daily food and beverage operation at one of Mackinac Island’s most distinctive resort properties. The ideal candidate is comfortable being on the floor, leading pre-shift meetings, supporting schedules, assisting with hiring and training, engaging with guests, and helping the team execute polished service during a busy seasonal resort operation. The Inn at Stonecliffe offers a guest experience rooted in historic charm, natural beauty, thoughtful service, and elevated hospitality. As part of the Schulte Hospitality Group portfolio, the property is supported by a larger hospitality organization while maintaining the individuality and character of an independent resort. The Assistant Food and Beverage Manager plays a key role in supporting daily restaurant, bar, banquet, and outdoor service operations. This position requires a visible floor presence, strong guest engagement, clear communication, and the ability to help lead teams through high volume service with professionalism and confidence.

Requirements

  • Prior restaurant, banquet, outlet, or food and beverage supervisory experience preferred
  • Hotel, resort, club, upscale restaurant, or seasonal hospitality experience strongly preferred
  • Experience leading pre service meetings, supporting schedules, coaching team members, and assisting with daily service execution preferred
  • Wine, spirits, and elevated service experience preferred
  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred; hospitality education or related degree a plus
  • Professional, polished, outgoing, and guest focused demeanor
  • Strong floor presence with the ability to lead by example
  • Clear verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong understanding of service standards, guest engagement, and hospitality fundamentals
  • Ability to work closely with Culinary, Banquets, outlet leaders, property leadership, and Schulte support teams
  • Strong organization, prioritization, time management, and follow through
  • Ability to train, coach, and support a diverse team
  • Ability to remain calm, professional, and positive during high volume service periods
  • Working knowledge of restaurant, bar, banquet, room service, and hotel food and beverage operations preferred
  • Flexible schedule, including evenings, weekends, holidays, and peak season business needs
  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods while overseeing operations and supporting service
  • Ability to lift, carry, push, or pull items weighing up to approximately 30 pounds
  • Ability to bend, reach, stoop, and move throughout dining rooms, kitchens, storage areas, banquet spaces, outdoor venues, and retail areas
  • Ability to work in varying conditions including heat, cold, noise, and outdoor environments

Responsibilities

  • Serve as Manager on Duty with a strong, visible presence on the floor
  • Create and maintain front of house schedules to ensure proper coverage across restaurants, bars, banquets, outdoor venues, and peak business periods
  • Assist with hiring, interviewing, onboarding, and training front of house food and beverage team members
  • Lead pre service meetings with a focus on menu knowledge, beverage features, service expectations, guest notes, event details, and daily priorities
  • Lead and support service execution across restaurants, bars, banquet events, outdoor venues, and other food and beverage areas
  • Support a polished, guest focused service culture rooted in warmth, professionalism, and attention to detail
  • Actively engage with guests to anticipate needs, personalize experiences, and support thoughtful service recovery when needed
  • Monitor dining rooms, bars, service stations, banquet spaces, and outdoor areas to ensure cleanliness, organization, readiness, and proper service flow
  • Train, coach, motivate, and hold front of house team members accountable to service standards
  • Support proper wine presentation, beverage service, pairing guidance, and beverage storytelling
  • Partner closely with Culinary, Banquet, and Food and Beverage leadership to ensure clear communication and seamless execution
  • Work closely with the Banquet Manager to support event execution, including setup standards, service flow, timing, guest experience, and service refinement
  • Assist with continued development for servers, bartenders, banquet staff, supervisors, and outlet leaders
  • Ensure compliance with health, safety, sanitation, and responsible alcohol service standards
  • Provide clear communication and thoughtful feedback to leadership to support continuous improvement
  • Assist the team directly when needed to support service, guest needs, staffing gaps, and operational demands
  • Perform other duties as needed to support the food and beverage operation and overall guest experience
