About The Position

The Liberty County Board of Commissioners is accepting applications for Assistant Fire Chief of Training. This position is responsible for the direction and oversight of the training division within the Fire Rescue Department.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of fire suppression standards, practices, strategies, tactics, and equipment.
  • Knowledge of local, state, and federal fire codes, local ordinances, and departmental rules and regulations.
  • Knowledge of public safety education practices and deliveries.
  • Knowledge of the operation and repair of motor vehicles and fire apparatus.
  • Knowledge of computers and job-related software programs.
  • Knowledge of county geography, streets, buildings, and water supply sources.
  • Knowledge of the National Incident Management System and Incident Command.
  • Knowledge of first aid principles and practices.
  • Knowledge of hazardous materials and their proper handling.
  • Skill in the operation of a variety of fire and life safety tools, equipment, and apparatus.
  • Skill in management and supervision under routine and emergency situations.
  • Skill in interpersonal relations and problem-solving.
  • Associates degree in a course of study related to the occupational field preferred.
  • More than five years of related experience required.
  • Possession of a valid Georgia Class E driver’s license.
  • Certifications: NIMS 100, 200, 300, 400, 700, 800; EOC/ICS Interface (G191); Basic Life Support and Basic Life Support Instructor; National Fire Board Firefighter I, Firefighter II, Hazmat Awareness and Hazmat Operations; National Professional Qualification Evaluator; GFSTC Fire Officer I, II, III, Public Safety Educator; GPSTC Crash Victim Extrication, and Public Information Officer.

Responsibilities

  • Develops, prepares, requests the purchase of, and evaluates training classes and/or materials used by the department and training division.
  • Sets and evaluates training goals and plans training objectives to meet established department, state, and national standards.
  • Teaches a wide variety of courses that will cover all aspects of current accepted techniques for the entry level firefighter through command and management courses for the department officers.
  • Schedules training for all department members, maintains accurate training records, and shall report pertinent training information to department, state, and national authorities/agencies as required.
  • Formulates training drills, trains trainers and other department personnel to implement training programs.
  • Prepares weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annual reports on training activities to all authorities/agencies that require such reports.
  • Prepares and/or evaluates specifications to meet state, federal and local guidelines for all types of equipment.
  • Serves as a secondary contact for the news media and other public agencies regarding Fire Services activities.
  • Responds to significant emergency incidents to assist with managing on-scene media activities as directed.
  • When directed responds to and directs activities at incident scenes; may serve as commanding officer.
  • Supervises and assists with the firefighting of structural fires to ensure that appropriate firefighting techniques are used.
  • Remains on-call and responds to after-hours emergencies as assigned.
  • Responds to emergency and non-emergency calls for service when directed.
  • Drafts specifications for new training equipment purchases.
  • Prepares the training division budget for the annual Fire Services budget.
  • Acts as the Deputy Fire Chief in his/her absence.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
