About The Position

The Assistant Facility Manager - Operations position is responsible for assisting the Facility Manager in overseeing all facility operations. This includes responsibilities for employee relations, discipline, safety, training, record keeping, and company policy compliance. Ergon Terminaling is a relationship-driven, family-owned company with locations throughout the U.S. and Mexico, valuing employee willingness to learn and contribute. Facility operators manage customer needs by loading, unloading, and transferring chemicals to/from barges, tanks, and railcars, working as a team in the tank farm to produce, process, ensure quality, and load/unload materials. This is not an office-based job; it requires individuals who enjoy working outdoors in various weather conditions.

  • General knowledge of safety and environmental regulations on local, state, federal, and company levels

Responsibilities

  • Oversees terminal maintenance, heat trace system, housekeeping, and documentation/records upkeep as directed by the Facility Manager.
  • Ensures safe and efficient handling of trucks, barges, and railcars.
  • Delegates facility employee work assignments as directed by Facility Manager.
  • Assists Facility Manager in maintaining training manuals, identifying employee training regulatory requirements, and maintaining records.
  • Implements the on-the-job training program for facility personnel, including the evaluation of tasks and skills.
  • Schedules facility safety and refresher training meetings on a regular basis.
  • Assists Facility Manager in shift scheduling, overtime scheduling, and addressing employee concerns or issues.
  • Oversees operation of facility in the absence of the Facility Manager and assumes his responsibilities.
  • Assists in disciplinary problems (absenteeism, tardiness, etc.).
  • Monitors terminal operations (e.g., heater and boiler reports, tank temperatures).
  • Completes daily paperwork and distributes it per the distribution list.
  • Performs required laboratory tests for certification of products.
  • Coordinates with sales on barge scheduling, inventory, blending, and special projects.
  • Communicates with the Coast Guard concerning barge arrivals and transfers.
  • Ensures outside contractors meet standards established by Local, State, Federal, or corporate agencies or groups.
  • Performs any other duties or tasks as may be assigned by Management.
