About The Position

HMH is the leading provider of behavioral health services for New York City’s Asian community and the second largest provider in the country. HMH serves nearly 1,000 community members through a comprehensive program model that understands and incorporates the strengths of individual cultures and addresses the stigma related to mental illness. Services range from psychological services; personalized recovery-oriented services for individuals with mental illness; recovery programming for addiction in six languages and seven dialects; supportive housing for people with mental health issues; and training and internship opportunities for graduate students in social work, mental health counseling, and psychology. Our team of over 40 full-time and 16 part-time staff speak Cantonese, Mandarin, Korean, Japanese, Vietnamese, and Cambodian. The Assistant Executive Director of Behavioral Health Services is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of one of the House’s largest divisions. As part of this role, the Assistant Executive Director will supervise program managers, ensure the delivery of high-quality direct services, management and coordination of a comprehensive community behavioral health delivery system; oversee the division’s government contracts, and collaborate with the House’s finance and operations staff to ensure the effective use of the division’s human and financial resources. The Assistant Executive Director will think strategically about the division’s direction, creating new ways to enhance programs and generate revenue. This person will report directly to the Executive Director and function as a key member of the House’s senior management team.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree Mental Health Counseling, Social Work or related field
  • Minimum of one year work experience managing community mental health counseling programs/clinical services in NYS
  • Expertise in program management, strategic planning, community health initiatives and clinical supervision
  • Familiar with NYS behavioral health service systems, City/State/Federal regulatory requirements and OMH/OASAS/Medicaid standards
  • Strong skills in CBT/DBT/person-centered treatment modalities.
  • New York State Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC) or Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW).

Responsibilities

  • Lead/oversee behavioral health programs at multiple locations, ensuring high-quality, patient centered care.
  • Perform regulatory/compliance functions to ensure adherence to City/State/Federal requirements, including OMH, OASAS, Medicaid standards
  • Lead program expansion/service redesign/grant development/new initiatives to address emerging community needs
  • Provide clinical supervision/consultation, including intervention in high-risk/urgent situations to ensure delivery of safe/clinically sound mental health services
  • Promote trauma-informed, culturally responsive and evidence-based practices across programs/services
  • Represent agency at community events and build/maintain partnerships with nonprofit organizations/community stakeholders/service providers.
  • Develop goals for the division that support the House’s overall strategic goals and direction; lead the staff in the achievement of these goals.
