About The Position

Primary Purpose of this Position: Assist the estimating or project team with estimating tasks as assigned. Essential Job Functions: Assist Estimators or Project Managers in reviewing customer-supplied plans, specifications, addenda, and bid documents. Perform quantity takeoffs for structural steel, miscellaneous metals, and buyout items under direction. Support scope review by helping identify inclusions, exclusions, and discrepancies in project documents. Assist in soliciting and tracking vendor and subcontractor pricing. Help ensure all required quotes are received and organized prior to bid deadlines. Organize and maintain estimating files, including drawings, specifications, addenda, and vendor quotes. Assist in preparation of bid tabs, estimate summaries, and proposal documents. Support development of estimates for material, detailing, shop labor, and buyouts. Assist in reviewing revisions, addenda, and drawing updates throughout the bid process. Participate in internal estimate reviews, bid meetings, and project handoffs. Communicate effectively with Estimators, Project Managers, vendors, and internal teams. Complete administrative and estimating-related tasks as assigned.

Requirements

  • Basic knowledge of steel fabrication practices and procedures.
  • Basic ability to read and interpret structural and architectural design drawings and specifications.
  • Excellent customer service skills including communicative and interpersonal abilities.
  • Excellent math skills.
  • Ability to manage one’s time and to handle multiple projects simultaneously in order to meet deadlines.
  • Ability to produce organized, systematic, and thorough estimates.
  • Good knowledge of general construction practices, sequences and techniques as well as shop fabrication processes and methods.
  • Good computer skills and knowledge.
  • Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and willingness to learn in a deadline-driven environment.
  • Associate’s degree in Structural Steel Detailing, Construction Management, CAD Drafting, or a related field, or A combination of education and experience.
  • Experience component should include two (2) years of any of the following: Structural steel fabrication, Production office operations, Detailing, Construction-related environment.
  • Education component should include post-secondary coursework in any of the following: Mathematics, Construction methods, Project Management, Blueprint reading, CAD or drafting, Estimating, Business Communications.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office products, including Excel, Word, and Outlook, is required.
  • Stand OCCASIONALLY over the course of the 8 to 12 hour work shift.
  • Walk OCCASIONALLY over the course of the 8 to 12 hour work shift.
  • Sit FREQUENTLY to CONTINOUSLY over the course of the 8 to 12 hour work shift.
  • Lift weights up to 30 pounds OCCASIONALLY from floor to head level.
  • Lift weights up to 50 pounds RARELY to OCCASIONALLY from floor to chest level.
  • Carry weights noted above distances ranging from a few feet to several hundred feet.
  • Climb OCCASIONALLY onto steps or ladders.
  • Stoop or crouch OCCASIONALLY while performing the regular job duties.
  • Kneel OCCASIONALLY in the commission of job duties, depending upon the task.
  • Crawl OCCASIONALLY up to 10 feet to plug in equipment, retrieve dropped materials, etc.
  • Reach forward OCCASIONALLY to FREQUENTLY to perform job duties or to retrieve tools.
  • Reach overhead OCCASIONALLY to retrieve books, supplies, etc.
  • Push and pull drawers open OCCASIONALLY to FREQUENTLY to retrieve tools or supplies.
  • Gross finger dexterity skills required operating the mouse utilized in the course of standard job duties.
  • Hear sufficiently to be aware of safety issues.
  • Visual ability to read and interpret material to satisfactorily do job.
  • Wear all required Personal Protective Equipment. PPE includes steel-toe safety shoes, hearing protection, safety glasses, gloves, and hard hats.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous estimating experience or completion of estimating coursework through a college or trade.
  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings.
  • Experience with industry-related software, including: Tekla PowerFab, Bluebeam, FabTrol, Other estimating or detailing systems.
