About The Position

Under general supervision, the Assistant Engineer performs entry-level professional civil engineering work in support of public works, transportation, land development, environmental, and infrastructure projects within Mono County. The position assists with engineering analysis, project management, field inspections, plan review, grant administration, and preparation of technical documents related to public and private development projects. Responsibilities may include assisting with construction administration, reviewing development plans and permits, conducting engineering calculations and research, supporting traffic and environmental studies, preparing cost estimates and specifications, collecting field data, and coordinating with developers, consultants, contractors, and regulatory agencies. The Assistant Engineer also supports grant-funded projects, County standards development, and infrastructure planning efforts while gaining practical experience in public sector engineering operations. This position offers an excellent opportunity for an early-career engineering professional to develop technical expertise, project management skills, and knowledge of public infrastructure systems while serving the residents and communities of Mono County.

Requirements

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or a related field from an accredited college or university.
  • Pursuit of FE/EIT certificate.
  • Equivalent work experience in civil engineering along with possession of an FE/EIT certificate.

  • Experience or familiarity with AutoCAD or Civil3D.
  • Experience or familiarity with public project management.
  • Experience or familiarity with CEQA/NEPA processes.
  • Experience or familiarity with grant administration.
  • Experience or familiarity with surveying.
  • Experience or familiarity with traffic studies.
  • Experience or familiarity with development review.
  • Candidates pursuing or possessing an Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification.
  • Demonstrated initiative, professionalism, and strong problem-solving abilities.
