About The Position

Gaston Electrical, a wholly owned subsidiary of EMCOR Group, Inc., is a union contractor providing expert electrical and low voltage contracting services to the commercial, institutional, life-sciences, hospitality, and retail markets in New England. The Assistant Project Manager will support the planning, directing, coordinating, and budgeting of electrical construction projects. This role will begin to manage parts of large projects or lead small projects under supervision, aiming for efficient project execution, maximum profitability, and high customer satisfaction. Through shadowing and mentoring, this role is designed to develop into a Project Manager.

Requirements

  • 2-3 years of demonstrated experience assisting in electrical project management.
  • BS in Construction Management or Electrical Engineering desirable; four year degree or equivalent years of education and/or experience required.
  • Electrical construction knowledge gained through an apprenticeship program is acceptable.
  • Strong communication skills – verbal and written – that promote “working together”.
  • Attention to detail and ability to follow a process.
  • Organizational and time management skills.
  • Problem resolution skills.
  • Demonstrate responsiveness to external and internal customers and ownership of your job and responsibilities is critical.
  • Desire to be part of a team and understand how your role fits into the bigger picture.
  • Demonstrated experience using various software such as Microsoft 365.

Nice To Haves

  • Will train on Construction related software such as Spectrum, Conest, and Bluebeam.

Responsibilities

  • Set up jobs including permits, material take offs, sending vendor quotes, and managing the submittal process.
  • Participate in estimating hand off meetings to understand job estimation.
  • Perform counts for buyouts of packages.
  • Ensure field teams have appropriate and up-to-date documentation.
  • Assist in establishing project schedules with the Project Manager.
  • Create cost code allocations from the initial estimate.
  • Discuss pre-fabrication opportunities with the PM and Pre-Fab Manager, and coordinate layout, planning, and scheduling for prefabricated assemblies.
  • Independently evaluate changes and process change orders.
  • Work closely with Office and Field teams to ensure the latest drawings are being used.
  • Visit job sites and attend job meetings as needed.
  • Assist with bi-weekly job cost projections, understanding job progress and hours-to-date.
  • Manage vendors and track all material deliveries.
  • Coordinate and issue timely RFIs.
  • Maintain professional written and verbal communication with customers and project teams.
  • Work with Project Coordinators for assistance with purchase and delivery tracking, software inputs, permit pulling, change order management, project close out materials, and administrative duties.
  • Ensure job close out manuals and as-builts are completed.
  • Participate in job close out meetings.
  • Understand Safety responsibilities onsite.
  • Mentor and assist with training Project Engineers.
