About The Position

This role focuses on expanding school engagement with Newfields by building and maintaining relationships with teachers, school administrators, and district partners. The Assistant Educator will develop, coordinate, and implement school and teacher programs, including workshops, continuing education sessions, educator and student resources, and field trips. The position also involves developing new and innovative programs and partnerships, designing promotional materials, translating academic standards into teaching curricula, assisting with volunteer docent training and materials, tracking expenses, representing Newfields at external events, and participating in campus-wide projects.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in Museum Education, Art History, Education, or related field, or equivalent experience.
  • 3–5 years of professional museum experience with a focus on PreK–12 engagement.

Responsibilities

  • Expand school engagement with Newfields by building and maintaining relationships with teachers, school administrators, and districts partners.
  • Develop, coordinate, and implement school and teacher programs, including but not limited to teacher workshops, teacher continuing education sessions, educator and student resources, and field trips.
  • Develop new and innovative programs, partnerships, and resources that integrate emerging trends in PreK-12 education.
  • With Marketing and Communications, design print and digital promotional materials.
  • With the Educator, Tour and Docent Programs, translate Indiana Academic Standards and child development principles into docent-ready learning goals and object-based teaching curricula.
  • Assist in the training and evaluation of volunteer docents, particularly for school programs, with emphasis on effective gallery teaching to achieve program objectives.
  • Maintain and update docent teaching materials and digital files.
  • Assist with tracking expenses and maintaining program documentation.
  • Represent Newfields at off-site convenings, conferences, and school education programs.
  • Participate in cross-functional teams and contribute to campus-wide projects.
