Assistant District Safety Manager
About The Position
Amalgamated Sugar Company is seeking an Assistant District Safety Manager to provide safety and health support at our Nampa Factory. Working under the direction of the District Safety Manager, this position will assist with safety program implementation, regulatory compliance, employee training, workplace inspections, incident investigations, hazard identification, and corrective action follow-up. The Assistant District Safety Manager will work closely with employees, supervisors, and operational leadership to promote safe work practices and support Amalgamated Sugar’s safety initiatives. This position reports directly to the District Safety Manager.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in Occupational Safety and Health or degree in a related field.
- Or a combination of education, experience, and training which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
- Relevant safety experience in manufacturing, industrial, agricultural, warehousing, construction, or other heavy industrial environments preferred.
- Equivalent combinations of education, training, and relevant safety experience may be considered.
Responsibilities
- Be a point of contact resource in the absence of the District Safety Manager or at the manager's direction.
- Support the District Safety Manager and Agriculture Safety Supervisor, as needed, in implementing, administering, and continuously improving safety and health programs across Factory operations and piling grounds.
- Maintain a strong field presence, spending approximately 80% of working time in the field and 20% in an office setting, providing hands-on safety support, conducting inspections and observations, identifying hazards, engaging with employees and supervisors, and following up on corrective actions.
- Conduct routine workplace safety inspections, observations, and compliance audits.
- Identify unsafe conditions and behaviors and work with leadership to develop appropriate corrective actions.
- Track identified safety deficiencies and corrective actions through completion.
- Assist with the investigation of injuries, illnesses, near misses, property damage, and other safety-related incidents.
- Participate in root cause analysis and assist management with developing effective corrective and preventive actions.
- Monitor corrective actions resulting from incident investigations, inspections, audits, and regulatory findings.
- Conduct and coordinate employee safety training, including annual, regulatory, task-specific, and refresher training.
- Support compliance with applicable OSHA regulations and other federal, state, and local safety requirements.
- Assist with programs including Lockout/Tagout, Confined Space, Fall Protection, Hazard Communication, Hearing Conservation, Respiratory Protection, Personal Protective Equipment, Emergency Response, and other applicable safety programs.
- Assist operational departments with hazard assessment tool (Take 5), risk assessments, and development of safe work procedures.
- Review workplace changes, equipment installations, and operational activities for potential safety hazards.
- Participate in safety meetings, employee safety committees, pre-job planning, and other safety-related activities.
- Respond to safety concerns and incidents throughout the district and provide support to operational leadership.
- Serve as a resource to employees and supervisors regarding company safety policies, regulatory requirements, and safe work practices.
