About The Position

The Office of the Queens County District Attorney is seeking talented and motivated law students and attorneys for its Fall 2027 Class. The ideal candidate will share District Attorney Melinda Katz's commitment to fair and just prosecutions while assuring the safety of all in Queens. The District Attorney is dedicated to combating violent crime and keeping communities safe through innovative approaches to criminal justice. The Office prosecutes all levels of crime in Queens County. Entry-level Assistant District Attorneys (ADAs) will undergo rigorous training in criminal law, procedure, and ethics. Following training, they will rotate through bureaus such as Intake, Criminal Court, Domestic Violence, and Appeals, gaining immediate courtroom experience. Continuous training in criminal law and advocacy will be provided. Assignments may include evening, weekend, and holiday responsibilities. After the rotation, ADAs are encouraged to move to a Felony Trial Bureau, which may involve crime scene response, line-ups, and pre-arrest investigations under supervision. The Office is committed to developing well-rounded prosecutors, with opportunities to advance to senior bureaus. All entry-level prosecutors participate in events with the Community Partnerships Division.

Requirements

United States citizenship upon commencement of employment.
New York State residency.
A three-year commitment to serve in the Office.

Responsibilities

Prosecuting all levels of crime in Queens County.
Participating in an initial rigorous training program in criminal law and procedure, as well as ethics.
Entering a rotation of entry-level bureaus, including Intake, Criminal Court or Domestic Violence, and Appeals.
Gaining courtroom experience, including arraignments, calendar calls, and misdemeanor hearings and trials.
Receiving continuous training in criminal law and advocacy.
Potentially having evening, weekend, and holiday responsibilities.
Moving to a Felony Trial Bureau after completing the rotation.
Potentially engaging in dynamic riding responsibilities at crime scenes.
Conducting line-ups.
Conducting pre-arrest investigations under supervision.
Participating in events with the Community Partnerships Division.
