About The Position

The primary function of an Assistant Dispatcher is to work in conjunction with the Dispatcher/Operations Manager to direct and coordinate the ordering and delivery of materials to customers in the day-to-day operations. This role requires continuous communication, strong organizational skills, and the ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously. The position is primarily in a fast-paced office or operations environment coordinating drivers, deliveries, service technicians, shipments, or transportation activities.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 2 years of dispatching experience.

  • High School Degree or GED.
  • Leadership Proficiency: Ability to guide and motivate teams, manage change, and align staff to branch objectives.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain receiving, warehousing and distribution operations by initiating, coordinating and enforcing program, operational, and personnel policies and procedures.
  • Complies with federal, state, and local warehousing, material handling, and shipping requirements and enforces adherence to requirements.
  • Completes warehouse/delivery requirements by scheduling and assigning employees; following up on work results.
  • Communicate with customers, drivers, vendors, and internal departments to provide updates and resolve issues.
  • Respond promptly to schedule changes, delays, emergencies, and other operational challenges.
  • Maintain accurate dispatch logs, delivery records, service documentation, and transportation reports.
  • Ensure compliance with company policies, safety regulations, and applicable transportation requirements.
  • Coordinates with personnel to ensure that service to the customer meets an acceptable standard and generates positive feedback.
  • Cooperates with the safety team and GMS Risk Management representatives in the investigation and analysis of potential hazards to enforce methods and reduce losses of claims.
