About The Position

Works directly with and reports to the Executive Director (Chief Nurse Administrator) of Nursing and has responsibility for undergraduate programs. The Assistant Director coordinates undergraduate programming with the Executive Director (Chief Nurse Administrator) to ensure the smooth implementation of educational programming at the undergraduate level. In addition, the Assistant Director works directly with faculty, professional staff, and other constituencies to develop innovative programming. The Assistant Director works with the lead course faculty of the Baccalaureate Programs, the Coordinator of the Learning Resources Center, Director of the Student Success Center, and other stakeholders as appropriate.

Requirements

  • Requires a relevant Doctoral degree, preferably in nursing.
  • Unencumbered Ohio registered nurse license.
  • Requires a minimum of five years practicing nursing experience as a registered nurse and a minimum of five years’ experience in higher education with teaching experience in a nursing program.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with faculty, staff, clinical partners, and university leadership.
  • Strong organizational, analytic, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficiency in academic technologies such as learning management systems, scheduling platforms, and student success or data tracking tools.
  • Experience in curriculum development, program coordination, academic support services, or student success initiatives.
  • Experience in program assessment, outcomes monitoring, or preparation of accreditation related reports.
  • Commitment to student centered decision making.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced academic environment.
  • High attention to detail in relation to compliance, documentation, and reporting.
  • Ability to lead collaborative initiatives and support faculty and staff development.
  • Professionalism, integrity, and commitment to the mission of the School of Nursing and the University of Akron.

Responsibilities

  • In consultation with the Executive Director, creates and uses School of Nursing committees to execute specific tasks.
  • Provides teaching for at least 9 load hours per calendar year (3 Fall, 3 Spring, 3 Summer)
  • Organizes the course schedule for both Akron and Wayne campuses
  • Monitors consistency of the classes between Akron and Wayne campuses
  • Coordinates the implementation of the undergraduate academic program including working with lead course faculty to make faculty assignment recommendations to the Executive Director
  • Maintains course roster and class schedules
  • Monitors student enrollment and progression
  • Participates in the student grievance process
  • Serves as member of appropriate School, College, and/or University committees
  • Assists with new faculty orientation for full and part time faculty in coordination with lead course faculty
  • Coordinates clinical experiences with multiple affiliating agencies
  • Identifies teaching needs for courses in consultation with the Executive Director.
  • Participates in recruitment and advising
  • Leads new student orientation
  • Participates in solving problems pertaining to student matters
  • Supports the program assessment process.
  • Leads teams, projects or programs that involve cooperation and coordination between multiple departments across the University or with external stakeholders.
  • May supervise one or more full-time employees or students.
