About The Position

The Citadel, The Military College of South Carolina, invites applications for a full-time Assistant Director of the Student Success Center – Services for Students with Disabilities. Located in historic Charleston, South Carolina, The Citadel has been ranked for the eighth consecutive year by U.S. News and World Report as the top public college in the South among master's-granting institutions. The Assistant Director of the Student Success Center – Services for Students with Disabilities is responsible for planning, organizing, directing, supervising, and evaluating programs and services designed to serve students with disabilities at The Citadel. The Assistant Director will complete job responsibilities independently and use sound professional judgment to serve students, coordinate the activities within the Student Success Center and ensure the college’s full compliance with federal and state laws related to students with disabilities.

Requirements

  • A Master’s degree in a relevant field such as special education, psychology, social work, counseling, or student affairs.
  • Experience in student disability services that reflects increasing responsibility pertaining to post-secondary students with disabilities.
  • Experience with an Academic Coaching Program OR experience as an academic coach.
  • Knowledge of special education (K-12) and post-secondary legislation and litigation.
  • Knowledge and experience interpreting and critically evaluating psycho-educational evaluations and other reports relevant to determine appropriate academic adjustments and accommodations for student with disabilities.
  • Knowledge of the characteristics of different disabilities and the means needed to ensure access to the educational process for post-secondary students with disabilities.
  • Experience with Accessible Information Management (AIM) system or a similar disability services software.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to interact effectively with students, prospective students, parents, faculty, staff, administrators, high school personnel and off-campus health care providers.
