About The Position

We are seeking an Associate Director, JUMP for Community Engagement to join the JUMP (Johns Hopkins Underserved in the Medical Professions) team in developing and implementing a strategic framework for the reimagined JUMP program. This individual must demonstrate cross-cultural nuance in developing and implementing curriculum and programming accessible to students with diverse experiences, talents, background, and perspectives. Specifically, this role focuses on developing community engagement both within JUMP and beyond JUMP in alignment with the program’s mission. As a point person for JUMP member data, this role directly supports the broad goal of JUMP continually learning from its students’ experiences. It is also responsible for training and supervising the graduate assistants and undergraduate interns who contribute to JUMP. The JUMP Associate Director for Community Engagement reports to the Director of JUMP within the Center for Student Success. JUMP is a large learning community invested in helping students achieve their health professional dreams! Our mission is to close the gaps and dismantle barriers that hinder the application progression of Johns Hopkins students and alumni pursuing health professional careers. Through our collaborative relationships with academic institutions, medical professionals, and community partners, we build bridges of opportunity for aspiring healthcare leaders from all backgrounds, including under-resourced and/or underserved backgrounds, to successfully navigate the pre-med/pre-health pathways at Johns Hopkins and beyond. Many JUMP members go on to engage with culturally diverse and economically underserved communities. Our members engage with the JUMP community and participate in programming and activities that enhance their pre-med/pre-health experience. Membership in JUMP includes access and priority participation for all JUMP workshops, panels, events, clinical & research opportunities, committees, leadership positions, Wellness Program, building a network, and much, much more! The newly imagined JUMP program is a learning community devoted to exploring, informing, and supporting pathways for diverse, talented undergraduates to pursue careers in medicine and the health professions. Working closely with the Office of Pre-Professional Advising, JUMP is centered on developing knowledge and essential skills for successfully navigating the pre-med/pre-health pathways at Hopkins and beyond.

Requirements

Ability to use appropriate judgment when dealing with sensitive issues.
Extensive knowledge and experiences managing holistic advising, assessment, academic and student affairs collaborations.
Ability to influence societal and workplace attitudes that honor principles to create a more inclusive community.
Exceptional interpersonal, oral, public speaking, writing, and listening skills.
Demonstrated experience developing, articulating, operationalizing, and assessing strategic priorities.
Proven ability to cultivate trust and credibility with colleagues and to build positive and effective relationships.
Proven track record of establishing strategic relationships to strengthen program and service delivery.
Familiarity with the academic rigors of pursuing a career in science, medicine or related health professions is required.
Demonstrated program management and public speaking skills.
Clear and effective communicator.
Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Canva.
Master's Degree in Counseling, Higher Education, a health-related field, or science.
Five years of experience in advising, mentoring, or guiding college students.

Nice To Haves

Five years’ experience as an academic advisor or pre-professional advisor in a higher education setting, or as a healthcare professional in a higher education environment.

Responsibilities

Develop and implement a strategic framework for the reimagined JUMP program.
Demonstrate cross-cultural nuance in developing and implementing curriculum and programming accessible to students with diverse experiences, talents, background, and perspectives.
Develop community engagement both within JUMP and beyond JUMP in alignment with the program’s mission.
Serve as a point person for JUMP member data, supporting the broad goal of JUMP continually learning from its students’ experiences.
Train and supervise the graduate assistants and undergraduate interns who contribute to JUMP.
Work with the JUMP Director in collaboration with the university Admissions to coordinate and execute JUMP recruitment effort.
Develop all recruitment materials for presentation and dissemination.
Maintain and enhance JUMP enrollment requirements.
In rotation with JUMP team members, conduct JUMP-Start sessions to onboard new JUMP members.
In rotation with JUMP team members, represent JUMP at recruitment events and opportunities.
Design, implement, and enhance the JUMP membership structure to capture member engagement within JUMP and along the pre-health pathway.
Manage the integration into Hopkins Groups and the JUMP pre-health progression profile metrics.
Coordinate the JUMP Wellness and Ambassador Programs.
Hire, train, and manage wellness and ambassador leaders.
Support wellness and ambassador teams in developing and executing their assigned activities.
Manage wellness and ambassador program budgets.
Share responsibility for supporting curriculum and programming that align with JUMP’s mission and the student-driven programming of JUMP student groups.
Manage, collect, present, and assess JUMP data, including tracking student participation in JUMP programming and activities.
Analyze the self-reported student data in the Pre-Health Progress Profile (PPP).
Analyze trends in students who exit JUMP.
Measure JUMP goals around application progression.
Manage partnerships with Integrative Learning and Life Design (ILLD) and on and off-campus partnerships in managing JUMP’s high-impact programs, including Pursuits in Healthcare, Cardio-Thoracic Internship Program, Medical Assistant Program, and other programs as assigned.
Develop a plan for sustainable expansion and integration of high-impact programs into the JUMP membership structure.
Join JUMP Director in building relationships with stakeholders and as needed, serve as proxy for the Director in cultivating partnerships when requested.
Hire, train and supervise 2-3 graduate assistants to support programming (event coordination, high-impact program tracking) and program administration (logistical outlines, procurement, budget, etc.) and program communications.
Support the professional development of graduate assistants.
Hire, train and supervise undergraduate student interns.
Provide holistic small group advising to JUMP Members.
On a limited as-needed basis, provide individual advising that prioritizes students’ knowledge of the pre-med pathway and specific skill-building.
Manage the collaboration with the Office of Pre-Professional Advising and Office of Academic Advising to ensure students have tailored academic advising and success coaching, and holistic health professional guidance and application support.
Stay abreast of current and national trends of students from all backgrounds including first-generation, and/or limited-income college students pursuing careers in the health professions.
Remain current in the field of pre-health advising and medical school admissions.
Facilitate referrals as appropriate.
