About The Position

The Assistant Director Student Life Communications supports the Director and the work of the divisional communication team. Assists with all divisional communications efforts including the development of coherent and collaborative communication plans for all Student Life departments to tell one clear story about the work of the Division of Student Life and the value it provides for the University. Assumes leadership in the absence of the Director. The Assistant Director Student Life Communications will support the director of SL Communications and the work of the divisional communication team. Assists with all divisional communications efforts, including the development of coherent and collaborative communication strategies for all 24 Student Life departments to tell one clear story about the work of the Division of Student Life and the value it provides for UA students. Assumes leadership in the absence of the director for the division's internal creative agency that assists and produces content for all 24 departments in the DSL. Collaborates with the Assistant Director of External Engagement on communication planning and asset development for fundraising and to ensure messages are clear, consistent, and coherent for both internal and external audiences. Provides leadership and serves as a content and rules/policy expert to all communicators throughout the division (1 representative per department). Provides training for all students and professional staff members who post on social media, submit marketing requests, etc. Leads the working group of all communication-related divisional staff in semesterly meetings. Recruit members for and provides leadership for the student communication ambassador team. Assists with all internal SL Communication initiatives including weekly divisional newsletters. Responsible for completing required training and promoting a safe, hospitable, and respectful workplace. Responsible for holding staff accountable for completion of required training.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree and four (4) years of journalism, public relations, marketing, or communications experience; OR master's degree and two (2) years of journalism, public relations, marketing, or communications experience.
  • Demonstrates commitment to supporting all students.
  • Must successfully pass a pre-employment background investigation.
  • Information obtained from social media and other internet sources will be reviewed as part of the background investigation.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with communications in a higher education setting.
  • Experience with a broad range of communication strategies and understanding of various facets of messaging to include social media, websites, and video messaging.
  • Demonstrated experience building communication plans and strategies.
  • Proficiency in graphic design across Adobe Suite.
