About The Position

Housing and Residential Engagement at Cal State Fullerton provides a safe, inclusive living environment for students that supports learning, personal growth, and community, empowering Titans to succeed both inside and outside the classroom. Cal State Fullerton currently provides residence hall and apartment style living for approximately 2,000 students that is safe, clean, and very convenient. We seek an exceptional individual to join our Housing-Administration team as the Assistant Director, Residential Engagement for Themed Living Communities and Campus Partnerships (Student Services Professional IV). The ideal candidate in this role should have a positive attitude and an active, energetic mind characterized by highly ethical practices and a commitment to inclusivity, openness, flexibility, integrity, and kindness.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or the equivalent from an accredited four-year college or university in a related field plus upper division or graduate course work in counseling techniques, interviewing, and conflict resolution.
  • Four years of professional student services work experience including experience advising students individually and in groups, as well as the analysis and resolution of complex student services problems.
  • A background check (including a criminal records check) must be completed satisfactorily and is required for employment.
  • Must have a reliable source of transportation.
  • Regular attendance is considered an essential job function; the inability to meet attendance requirements may preclude the employee from retaining employment.

Nice To Haves

  • Master's degree in Higher Education, Student Affairs, College Counseling, Counseling, Social Work, Educational Leadership, Student Development, or a closely related field.
  • Three (3) or more years of professional experience in residential education, residential engagement, or housing and residence life.
  • Previous live-in professional experience within university housing.
  • Experience developing and assessing residential curriculum, Theme Living Communities, or living-learning community initiatives.
  • Experience supervising graduate assistants, professional staff, and/or student leaders.
  • Experience developing campus-wide partnerships and collaborative educational initiatives.
  • Experience with student learning assessment, program evaluation, and strategic planning.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the strategic leadership, development, implementation, and assessment of Housing and Residential Engagement's Theme Living Community (TLC) program and campus partnership initiatives.
  • Provides leadership for the department's residential curriculum and engagement efforts through intentional collaboration with campus departments and community partners.
  • Develops and implements educational experiences that support student belonging, academic success, leadership development, identity exploration, well-being, and community engagement.
  • Serves as the primary liaison between Housing and Residential Engagement and campus partners supporting Theme Living Communities and residential educational initiatives.
  • Oversees the planning, implementation, and assessment of signature residential programs and collaborative initiatives that advance departmental learning outcomes and student success goals.
  • Provides direct supervision to graduate assistants and student leaders as assigned.
  • Participates in departmental leadership and strategic planning efforts.
  • Serves in the departmental on-call rotation, providing crisis intervention and emergency response as needed.
  • Works independently, exercises sound judgment, demonstrates initiative, and contributes broadly to the mission, vision, and values of Housing and Residential Engagement and the Division of Student Affairs.
  • Other duties as assigned.
