About The Position

The Assistant Director, PSH Surgical Services reports to the Associate Vice President, Surgical Services. This role provides operational and clinical leadership for surgical and procedural services at Physicians’ Specialty Hospital (PSH), with accountability for day-to-day operations, staffing and resource management, quality and patient safety, and regulatory/accreditation readiness. The Assistant Director partners with surgeons, anesthesia, nursing, sterile processing, and interdisciplinary leaders to ensure safe, efficient, patient-centered perioperative care and also provides minor oversight of PSH building operations in coordination with support departments and organizational leadership.

Requirements

  • Must be a graduate of an accredited nursing program
  • Current Arkansas RN license and CPR required.
  • ACLS required within 90 days.
  • PALS required within 120 days of DOH or transfer.
  • Minimum of six (6) years of clinical experience in an acute-care or specialty hospital perioperative environment required.
  • Prior leadership experience (e.g., charge nurse, coordinator, supervisor, manager, or equivalent) with labor, operational, and physician-partnering responsibilities preferred.

Nice To Haves

  • Perioperative certification (e.g., CNOR) preferred.
  • Experience supporting facility operations or coordinating routine building issues in a healthcare setting is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Provide operational oversight for assigned PSH perioperative and procedural areas, ensuring safe, efficient daily flow, consistent standards of care, and alignment with organizational goals.
  • Partner with surgeons, anesthesia, perioperative nursing, sterile processing, and procedural services to optimize scheduling, staffing models, throughput, and room utilization at PSH.
  • Lead workforce planning, including staffing assignments, call coverage, productivity monitoring, and escalation support to maintain appropriate coverage and service continuity.
  • Support recruitment, interviewing, onboarding, coaching, and performance management; promote engagement, accountability, and a culture of safety across PSH Surgical Services.
  • Drive quality, patient safety, and performance improvement initiatives, including event review, action planning, and sustainment of best practices such as time-out, counts, infection prevention, and medication safety.
  • Maintain readiness for surveys and audits; ensure compliance with applicable regulatory, legal, and accreditation standards for PSH surgical and procedural services.
  • Oversee equipment, instrumentation, implants, and supply chain needs; collaborate on capital planning, vendor management, and standardization efforts to support PSH service lines.
  • Monitor and support budgetary performance, including labor, supplies, and case-cost opportunities; identify and implement efficiency improvements across PSH Surgical Services.
  • Ensure competency, education, and training are implemented and maintained for perioperative teams, including support of new procedures, technology, and ongoing skills validation.
  • Serve as a visible leader in clinical areas; remain accessible to staff, address operational issues in real time, and escalate barriers impacting patient care, experience, or case progression.
  • Support patient-centered care principles and collaborate across departments to ensure smooth perioperative transitions in phases of care.
  • Provide minor oversight of PSH building operations, coordinating with facilities, environmental services, security, and other support departments to address routine operational issues and maintain a safe, functional environment.
