About The Position

Assists with the daily operations of a department or work unit. Develops program guidelines and policies and may be responsible for the implementation of major programs or projects within a department. May supervise and/or provide guidance to employees or be responsible for the management of programs, initiatives or events. First consideration given to UofM employees.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in relevant area and five years of appropriate experience.

Responsibilities

  • Assists the Director with the day-to-day operation of the Office for Civil Rights Compliance and Title IX (OCRCTIX).
  • Assists in the development, implementation, and monitoring of equal opportunity and non-discrimination programs in compliance with Federal and State government regulations, and the University's strategic plans.
  • Assists in the timely completion of all required institutional reporting, including the institutions’ non-discrimination plans.
  • Monitors and communicates results on current status and updates as appropriate.
  • Oversees the compilation of statistical data for inclusion in the state and federal plans, compliance reviews and progress reports.
  • Produces and prepares special projects, reports and surveys for the President's Office, Provost or Vice President as requested.
  • Assists the Director in evaluating and implementing applicable departmental policies, in compliance with government legislation.
  • Assists the Director with investigations and resolving complaints of sexual harassment, discrimination and harassment.
  • Encourages, coordinates and/or facilitates informal complaint resolution by providing resources, advice, counsel, coaching and/or mediation as appropriate.
  • Provides oversight of investigative and intake staff.
  • Oversees case assignment and intake complaints in compliance with state and federal law.
  • Coordinates daily office operations to include assessing, researching and responding to routine information requests, scanning, reviewing and maintaining records, case files, and related documents.
  • Assists the Director with managing the budget for the Office, to include preparing and processing purchase orders, preparing budget revisions, and analyzing and interpreting reports of department financial conditions.
  • Utilizes the University’s electronic applicant tracking system (Oracle Fusion) to assist in the administrative review of all employment actions associated with the hiring process for compliance with applicable equal employment opportunity and non-discrimination laws and guidelines.
  • Serves as a consultant to hiring officials and Human Resources staff, providing guidance on matters.
  • Works with deans, department chairs, directors and other hiring officials on searches (i.e., posting, recruitment, targeting resources, monitoring pools, waivers of posting), interview questions, reasons for selection.
  • When necessary, provides coverage for the Director and represent the Office at various meetings and events.
  • Assists in administrative staff meetings and attends other meetings and seminars as necessary.
  • Interacts professionally with all internal and external constituents using strong customer service skills.
  • Receives and addresses complaints from university employees and students based on protected class status concerning allegations of discriminatory behavior within the university.
  • Conduct investigatory interviews with complainants, respondents and witnesses and produce written reports on findings.
  • Assists the Director with conducting departmental related trainings (i.e., Title VI, Title VII, Title IX, search committee, etc.) and provides counsel, support, and referral for individuals and groups with concerns equal opportunity at the University.
