About The Position

Cornerstone Family Healthcare is actively recruiting for an Assistant Director of WIC to join our growing team in Harriman. This position provides strategic and operational leadership for Cornerstone Family Healthcare’s WIC services, with direct oversight of the Harriman location and supervisory responsibilities for one Site Supervisor, qualified nutritionists and WIC clerks at that location. This position serves as a key partner to the WIC program director in implementing WIC standards and guidelines established by NYS WIC, advancing program performance, and ensuring high-quality, participant centered services across the local agency. In the designated role of Nutrition Coordinator, this position leads nutrition education, supporting staff competency and consistency of practice, as well as contributing to the implementation of the Local Agency Nutrition and Breastfeeding Promotion and Support Plan, enhancing agency-wide program operations.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree (or higher) in Nutritional Sciences, Community Nutrition, Clinical Dietetics, Foods and Nutrition, or a related field from a regionally accredited college or university, or one recognized by the New York State Education Department.
Registered Dietitian (RD) credential, or eligibility for registration through the Commission on Dietetic Registration of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics.
Completion of an accredited dietetic internship program is required.

Responsibilities

Partner with the WIC Program Director in the overall management of Cornerstone’s WIC program, including WIC administration, administrative system, quality, and daily operations across sites, with primary responsibility for the Harriman location.
Supervise designated Site Supervisor, qualified nutritionists and WIC clerks at the Harriman location, providing coaching, performance feedback, and guidance on site-level staffing, workflows, and participant services.
Provide leadership for the coordination of daily operations at Harriman, including participant flow, nutrition services, eligibility determination, daily staff scheduling, and service delivery standards, intervening to resolve complex operational issues as needed.
Lead implementation and optimization of the New York State WIC information system (NYWIC), ensuring full compliance with WIC rules, regulations and documentation standards.
Ensure quality nutrition services are provided to all WIC participants.
Oversee food and formula prescriptions and coordinate with medical providers.
Participate in the development and implementation of the Local Agency Management Evaluation (ME).
Ensure the efficient flow of the assessment and education process.
Maintain confidentiality in all aspects of operations (patient, financial, and employee-related).
Be familiar with and adhere to organizational policies and procedures.
Attend and participate in required department, staff, and agency meetings.
Conduct monthly staff meeting in the absence of the program Director.
Perform other related duties as assigned by the WIC Program Director.
Promote a positive attitude conducive to the workplace, which enhances and furthers the mission, vision and value of the program.
Provides the roles and responsibilities of a Nutrition Coordinator as outlined by WIC Program standards in providing services to staff and participants.
Lead development and implementation of the agency’s Nutrition and Breastfeeding Promotion and Support Plan.
Develop and oversee high-risk care plans and track participant progress.
Coordinate nutrition services with community organizations and medical providers.
Participate in quality assurance (QA) processes and staff competency in various nutrition related areas (i.e. anthropometry, hematology, nutrition education, etc.)
Act as a mentor and provide technical guidance to staff delivering nutrition services.
Provide leadership in planning, conducting and evaluating participant-centered nutrition education.
Provide nutrition in-service training to local agency staff who provide nutrition services to participants.
Conduct chart reviews and in-service nutrition training.
Stay current with nutrition research and share relevant updates with staff.
Participate in local and state workgroups to improve nutrition and program services.
Provide technical assistance and consultation to local agency staff and other health professionals in nutrition service areas.
Stay current with up-to-date nutrition information and shares with LA staff by attending professional conferences, meetings, seminars, training, and WIC Association functions
