About The Position

Reporting to the Assistant Dean and Director of Student Success, the Assistant Director of Student Success is responsible for developing and implementing programs, partnerships, and resources to support students’ academic success and career readiness for our nearly 70 distinct majors in the College of Sciences and Humanities (CSH) with the goal of increasing student retention and success for our more than nearly 4,000 undergraduate majors. The Assistant Director is responsible for the daily operations of the growing CSH Success Hub that sees more than 3,000 student visits each semester.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in psychology, education, sociology, or related field by date of hire.
  • At least 3 years of experience working in education, nonprofit, or related field.
  • Experience planning small and large-scale events for a diverse population of stakeholders, such as students, faculty, families, alumni, and/or donors.
  • Display independent, professional judgment and organizational skills to plan, prioritize, and manage a diverse workload with sensitivity and confidentiality while maintaining accuracy with the many details.
  • Ability to gather, analyze, and interpret data as well as creatively solve problems.
  • Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a team and assume responsibility for problem-solving.
  • Strong communication, administrative, and presentation skills.
  • Resounding commitment to excellence and genuine care for student success.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and other common software packages.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree in a related field with at least 4 years of related work experience in higher education or related field.
  • Knowledge of and experience with student success, admissions, advising, and/or student developmental theory.
  • Supervisory experience in higher education, especially in student-facing roles.

Responsibilities

  • Interacts with and supports students at programs and events and through individual scheduled and drop-in sessions to discuss areas of concern.
  • Assists in the planning and execution of targeted, innovative and evidence-based programs and services for students aimed at improving student success and retention with emphasis on academic support and career readiness.
  • Supports the Assistant Dean to coordinate recruitment and orientation activities including prospective undergraduate student visits, admissions events such as Cardinal Preview Days, CSH Preview Day, Admitted Student Day, and orientation programs.
  • Assists with the college’s Welcome Week activities with our academic departments in collaboration with the Associate Dean and Assistant Dean.
  • Works with campus partners and stakeholders for cross-departmental student success initiatives, providing information, securing space reservations, scheduling planning meetings, and providing necessary documentation and reports.
  • Partners with the Assistant Dean and CSH Dean’s Communications Team to develop annual CSH Success Hub marketing plan, promotional materials, and publications, and maintains update-to-date content on the CSH Success Hub website.
  • Manages, and creates content for, the CSH Success Hub’s social media and Canvas Community platforms.
  • Utilizes BSU technology platforms to document student support, track attendance at CSH Success Hub events/programs, conduct student outreach, respond to Navigate alerts, and analyze trends.
  • Recruits, supervises, and evaluates the activities and performance of CSH Success Hub graduate assistant and undergraduate employees including onboarding, training, assigning and reviewing work in collaboration with the Assistant Dean.
  • Facilitates the assessment and evaluation of CSH’s student retention and success initiatives.
  • Assists with the preparation of post-program/event reports and the CSH Success Hub Year-in-Review report.
  • Represents the college on select university committees as needed.
  • Supports the mission, values, and goals of Ball State University and the College of Sciences and Humanities.
  • Other duties as requested by the Assistant Dean.
