About The Position

The Assistant Director of Student Services provides educational leadership and serves as a resource to building principals, and supports district special education programs. This is a 12-month administrative position.

Requirements

  • Illinois Educators License with General Administrative Endorsement
  • Endorsement as a Learning Behavior Specialist (LBS1) or special education-related service provider (School Social Worker, School Psychologist, Speech Language Pathologist)
  • Minimum of 5 years experience working in a school setting with students with disabilities across multiple grade levels
  • Demonstrated educational leadership experience
  • Knowledge/skills in staff development and retention
  • Proven visionary leadership skills
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills
  • Equity minded

Responsibilities

  • Assist principals and staff with problem-solving and planning involving students with special needs, their families, and/or staff members
  • Assist staff in all district programs in the determination of instructional methods and materials
  • Assist in the development and implementation of policies, procedures, rules, and regulations as it relates to special education and the Student Services department
  • Monitor the appropriateness and delivery of the instructional programs and make recommendations for necessary improvements through formal and informal program evaluations
  • Administer and oversee special education extended school-year programming
  • Coordinate State and District assessment procedures in connection to students with disabilities and assist with accommodations management
  • Evaluate the performance of staff members as assigned in accordance with the district evaluation plan
  • Determine staffing levels and assign personnel for special education services in cooperation with principals, the Human Resources Department, and the Executive Director of Student Services
  • Assist in the planning of professional development activities for all special education/student services staff
  • Participate in professional growth activities through local, regional, State, and national conferences or workshops and keep informed regarding all federal and state rules and regulations relating to special education
  • Monitor students placed in out-of-district special education programs
  • Perform all other duties necessary to the efficient operation of the Student Services Department and other duties as may be assigned by the Executive Director of Student Services or Superintendent of Schools
