About The Position

The Assistant Director of Student Retention & Success provides strategic leadership for library services that support student learning, academic achievement, information literacy, and institutional effectiveness. This position serves as the primary administrator for library operations, instructional programming, library collections, faculty partnerships, and library assessment while fostering a welcoming environment that promotes student engagement and academic success. The Assistant Director works collaboratively with campus partners to develop innovative programs, services, and learning opportunities that position the library as an essential academic support resource for students and faculty.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • Three years of progressively responsible experience in higher education, libraries, academic support, student services, or a closely related field.
  • Experience developing or coordinating programs, services, projects, or initiatives that support student learning or engagement.
  • Experience collaborating with faculty, staff, students, and external partners.
  • Knowledge of higher education, student success practices, and academic support services.
  • Knowledge of library operations, information literacy, research practices, or the ability to develop expertise in these areas.
  • Knowledge of copyright, fair use, accessibility principles, and ethical use of information, or the ability to acquire and apply this knowledge.
  • Ability to build collaborative relationships with faculty, students, administrators, and campus partners.
  • Strong organizational, project management, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent written, verbal, presentation, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability to analyze data, assess program effectiveness, and support continuous improvement.
  • Ability to effectively utilize emerging technologies and educational technologies to enhance teaching, learning, and student engagement.
  • Demonstrated commitment to innovation, collaboration, customer service, and student success.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to communicate diplomatically, clearly, and effectively, both verbally and in writing to exchange information, give/receive instructions and respond to inquiries appropriately with all students, faculty, staff and community partners.
  • Valid Oklahoma driver’s license is required if performing the functions of the position requires the use of a personal or university vehicle.

Nice To Haves

  • Master's degree in Library and Information Science (MLIS/MLS) or a related field from an accredited university preferred.
  • Experience in an academic library.
  • Experience providing library instruction, information literacy instruction, workshops, or other educational programming.
  • Experience supervising employees or student workers.
  • Experience with library technologies, integrated library systems, electronic resources, learning management systems, or comparable educational technologies.
  • Experience supporting accreditation, assessment, strategic planning, budgeting, or project management.
