About The Position

The Assistant Director of Student Engagement provides strategic leadership and direction in the university's efforts to enhance student engagement and involvement towards ultimately increasing student success and retention. This professional will have a unique opportunity to lead in the delivery of highly effective student engagement programs and services that promote equity, inclusion, sense of belonging, and social justice, to an increasingly diverse student population. The Assistant Director will also collaborate with professionals across the university to promote holistic student development. Mount Mary University serves an undergraduate population with over 60% of students identifying from historically marginalized backgrounds.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree required.
  • Experience developing and implementing a wide range of successful programs at the college level.
  • Demonstrated commitment to promoting equity and inclusion; experience working with underrepresented students.
  • Exceptional ability to multitask and prioritize projects.
  • Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills, including the ability to work with diverse groups, facilitate group process and foster collaborative decision making.

Nice To Haves

  • Master's degree preferred, preferably in Student Affairs, Higher Education, or College Student Personnel Administration.
  • Experience advising student clubs and organizations preferred.
  • Experience with developing new student orientation and first year student programs and services.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement co-curricular campus programs that promote the holistic development of students, build community, increase a sense of belonging, meet the needs of our diverse student population, and support the University's mission.
  • Collaborate with faculty, staff, and students to develop robust student development programs that positively impact persistence and retention such as the Mount Mary Moments series.
  • Collaborate with the Director of First Year and Transition Programs to develop, implement, and evaluate a comprehensive program to engage first year students, towards encouraging student success, including New Student Registration and Orientation.
  • Hire, train, supervise, and evaluate professional and student (Graduate Assistants and Program Assistants) staff.
  • Manage Student Engagement social media connections with students, including Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram.
  • Facilitate programs that create a vibrant and welcoming atmosphere, promote social justice, and multi-cultural competence among students on campus.
  • Advise the Student Government Association and supervise student organizations.
  • Foster the development of new clubs and organizations, and provide training and enrichment for student leaders and their organizations' advisors.
  • Develop, monitor, and revise policies for the operation and oversight of student clubs and organizations.
  • Communication with vendors and others on campus.
  • Participate in the shared professional staff on-call schedule, providing crisis response, support and referrals.
  • Maintain an active presence and engagement with students, including evenings and weekends as needed.
  • Provide reports to the senior leadership of Student Affairs as required.
  • Manage budgets assigned to the Engagement department.
  • Collaborate on the development of university-wide policies that affect students.
  • Perform other duties, responsibilities, or special projects as assigned.
