About The Position

The Department of Housing and Residential Education at Florida Atlantic University is seeking an Assistant Director of Residential Education in Jupiter, FL. This live-in position provides direct supervision of a Community Coordinator and a Housing Administration Coordinator, and indirect leadership to Resident Assistants and Front Desk Staff, while overseeing the residential experience across three residence halls at the Wilkes Honors College on the Jupiter Campus. The Assistant Director provides leadership for a residential experience that fosters inclusive communities and supports student learning, engagement, wellbeing, academic success, and personal development. Oversees the implementation of the department's residential curriculum, supports student conduct and critical-incident response efforts, collaborates with campus partners, and contributes to a comprehensive housing program that prioritizes student satisfaction, retention, learning, and engagement. Participates in the department's second-level on-call rotation.

Requirements

  • A master's degree from an accredited institution in an appropriate area of specialization and two years of appropriate experience; or a bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in an appropriate area of specialization and four years of appropriate experience required.

Responsibilities

  • Directly supervise a Community Coordinator and Housing Administration Coordinator.
  • Provide indirect leadership and support to Resident Assistants and Front Desk Staff.
  • Provide ongoing coaching, mentoring, supervision, performance feedback, and professional development for direct and indirect reports.
  • Support the recruitment, selection, onboarding, training, evaluation, and development of professional and student staff.
  • Foster a culture of learning, accountability, collaboration, student-centered decision-making, and continuous improvement.
  • Conduct performance evaluations, establish clear expectations, and promote professional growth and accountability.
  • Lead the implementation of the department's residential curriculum within the assigned residential area.
  • Contribute to a comprehensive assessment plan encompassing satisfaction, retention, and student learning outcomes.
  • Utilize data and assessment tools to enhance the residential experience.
  • Prepare semester and annual reports that evaluate area performance and identify opportunities for continuous improvement.
  • Collaborate with campus partners to develop and implement initiatives that support student recruitment, success, retention, and engagement.
  • Review on-call and incident reports to ensure timely follow-up, consistency, and appropriate response.
  • Provide leadership and decision-making during critical incidents and emergency situations.
  • Ensure Community Coordinators are trained in university protocols related to behavioral intervention, mental health, emergency response, facilities concerns, and student support.
  • Participate in the departmental on-call rotation and provide after-hours leadership and consultation.
  • Coordinate post-incident follow-up, student support, referrals, and case management while supporting Community Coordinators in addressing roommate conflicts, community concerns, and student wellbeing.
  • Provide students with guidance, support, referrals, and developmental coaching directly and through the supervision of staff.
  • Promote a safe residential environment through proactive risk management, policy education, and community accountability.
  • Serve as a student conduct administrator by adjudicating alleged violations of university and housing policies.
  • Utilize the student conduct process as an educational opportunity that promotes accountability and student development.
  • Provide guidance and accountability to Community Coordinators regarding conduct documentation and case management.
  • Interpret and communicate university and housing policies consistently and fairly.
  • Oversee the assigned residential area to ensure operational consistency, accountability, and alignment with departmental priorities.
  • Lead residence hall opening, closing, and semester transition processes in collaboration with Residential Education Operations and campus partners.
  • Oversee administrative functions including occupancy management, damage billing, health and safety inspections, student records, and related processes.
  • Monitor area budgets and utilize departmental resources responsibly.
  • Conduct regular facility walkthroughs in partnership with Housing Facilities to identify operational needs and support timely resolution.
  • Recommend improvements to departmental policies, procedures, and operational practices that enhance the residential student experience.
  • Provide operational and programmatic support for university-wide events, including Orientation, Family Weekend, Admissions initiatives, athletic events, and campus traditions.
  • Serve on departmental committees and represent Residential Education on divisional or university committees as assigned.
  • Develop collaborative partnerships that strengthen the residential student experience.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
