About The Position

This 12-month, live-in position is responsible for the day-to-day management and programming associated with Everett Community College Student Housing. The Assistant Director of Residence Life will coordinate and administer the overall Residence Life program, including student development and operations components, in assigned residence halls. This role serves as a primary support and resource for the daily operations of the assigned residence hall, including clerical and general office support, mail, key management, card access system; reception, meetings, orientation, special events, and tours. The position provides assistance with application processing, placement, assignment, billing, maintenance, and other essential processes. The Assistant Director is responsible for instilling a sense of community, maintaining operational standards, and implementing new services within the assigned residence hall. They will respond to urgent situations and emergencies on an on-call basis, and take the appropriate action within policies and procedures. This role works with the Director of Housing on quarterly resident room inspection, inventory management and related activities, including move-in and move-out operations. The position requires the individual to reside on campus.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent combination of education/training/experience.
  • 1 year of professional employment in student housing OR 1 year of professional employment in student life and activities experience.
  • Working knowledge of laws and regulations that impact Housing & Residential Life programs and students, such as CAS Standards, Fair Housing Act, HEOA, FERPA, Title IX, student conduct, and due process, etc.
  • Strong computer skills, specifically within Microsoft and Google suite.
  • Experience supervising students (e.g., Resident Assistants, work study, etc.)
  • Experience that demonstrates strong communication, organizational, and management skills.
  • Experience that demonstrates sensitivity to and an understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, ethnic, and ability backgrounds of community college students.
  • Must reside on campus.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s Degree in student personnel, student affairs, recreation, human services, or related field.
  • Demonstrated success in developing and implementing residence life programming, events, and activities.
  • Experience working in a community college housing setting and with a large international student population.
  • Grant management experience.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a primary support and resource for the daily operations of the assigned residence hall, including clerical and general office support, mail, key management, card access system; reception, meetings, orientation, special events, and tours.
  • Provide assistance with application processing, placement, assignment, billing, maintenance, and other essential processes.
  • Responsible for instilling a sense of community, maintaining operational standards, and implementing new services within assigned residence hall.
  • Respond to urgent situations and emergencies on an on-call basis, and take the appropriate action within policies and procedures.
  • Work with the Director of Housing on quarterly resident room inspection, inventory management and related activities, including move-in and move-out operations.
  • Implement all policies and procedures of the Office of Student Housing.
  • Develop and maintain awareness of issues within the residence community, and work with the Director of Student Housing to initiate efforts to respond.
  • Promote student rights and responsibilities, including resident conduct and conduct reporting.
  • Participate in Resident Assistant (RA) recruitment, selection, and hiring processes.
  • Hire, train, supervise, and evaluate RAs in partnership with the Director of Housing, providing on-going leadership and staff development.
  • Conduct regular staff and one-on-one meetings with RAs.
  • Work with RAs to assess student needs and interests, anticipate and promote educational and recreational programs, and support established initiatives that enrich the residential community.
  • Oversee training of and supervise summer student staff in conjunction with appropriate and related summer programming.
  • Participate in workgroup training, advisory committees, college-sponsored events, and programs.
  • Facilitate and lead training or events as assigned.
  • Serve as a resource and referral for student staff and residents dealing with specific residence hall problems, including issues with facilities, resident mediation, behavioral concerns, and personal matters.
  • Participate in the on-call administrator-in-charge rotation for Student Housing.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
