About The Position

The Assistant Director of Professional Development (ADPD) serves as the liaison between Georgetown University’s Cawley Career Education Center and School of Foreign Service (SFS), providing strategic leadership and oversight for career development programming for approximately 1,400 undergraduate students. The role supports students in making career decisions aligned with their interests, goals, and objectives through career education, mentorship, and self-reflection. The ADPD oversees advising, career exploration, recruitment preparation, and education about internship and job opportunities and experiential learning across industries and job functions. The position facilitates student use of Cawley services, including drop-in appointments, individual counseling, industry advising, workshops, employer events, and career fairs. It also provides or oversees SFS-specific career programming, coordinates with SFS deans, faculty, and staff, and presents career services during student orientation and university events. In addition to SFS responsibilities, the ADPD serves as an Industry Advisor and Manager of Employer Relations for Government, Nonprofit, and Education at Cawley, serving students interested in those industries across undergraduate schools. The position builds relationships with students, faculty, staff, alumni, and employers; coordinates career programming between SFS and Cawley; and may provide supervisory oversight to approximately one or two undergraduate peer career advisors. Strategic priorities are established jointly by the Associate Director of Employer Relations at Cawley and the SFS Career Center.
